Reinstallation of SSL and VPN Clients after SSL gateway 5.1 upgrade

Applies to:

This procedure is for SSL users who use ‘Network Connect’ mode AND have the Check Point VPN Client installed.

Symptom:

Following the SSL gateway 5.1 upgrade 27-AUG-05 you are unable to establish a remote access connection to Seagate resources.

Cause:

The two remote access clients compete for resources and therefore need to be installed in a specific order.

Resolution:

Uninstall both clients; install SSL Network Connect, then Check Point VPN.

Note: The order in which you reinstall the Clients is critical. You must reinstall SSL first; then reinstall Check Point VPN.

From your Desktop:

1. Click Start.

2. Select Settings | Control Panel.

3. Select Add or Remove Programs.

4. Locate and click Check Point VPN.

5. Click Change/Remove.

6. Click OK to proceed with removing the application.

7. Select reboot later when prompted to reboot.

8. Locate Juniper Networks Network Connect program.

9. Click Change/Remove. (Note: Program automatically removes.)

10. Close Add or Remove Programs.

Reinstalling Juniper Networks Network Connect (SSL):

1. Launch your Internet Browser.

2. Type the SSL gateway.

(E.g., or )

3. Login using GID and token passcode.

4. Select 3 - Network Connect from Realm selection box.

5. Click the Sign In button. (Client downloads automatically on first visit.)

Reinstalling Check Point VPN Software:

1. Access ra.. (I..e., )

2. Download and run the CP Clean utility. (This removes any traces of VPN that may still exist after uninstalling the application.)

3. Download the appropriate VPN software for your OS version to your Desktop.

4. Double click on the VPN file on your Desktop.

5. Click Next when the Check Point "Installation Wizard" begins.

6. Click Yes when prompted by the "License Agreement".

7. Click Next on the "Choose Destination Location" screen displaying the default installation path.

8. Verify that the completion of the "Setup Status" screen reaches 100%.

9. Select the Install VPN-1 SecureClient radio button on the "Desktop Security" screen and click Next.

10. Select the Install on all network adapters radio button on the "Dialup adapters" screen and click Next.

11. Click No when prompted to view the README file.

12. Select the Yes, I want to restart my computer now radio button and click Finish.

Updating the VPN Gateway configuration:

1. Click Update Now after the system has restarted.

2. Select SecurID from the drop down Authentication Schemes.

3. Select the Use Key FOB hard token radio button and click OK.

4. Enter your Global ID (GID) in the "User name" field.

5. Enter your 4-digit PIN in the "PIN" field.

6. Enter your 6-digit RSA token code in the "Tokencode" field.

7. Click Update.

8. Click OK on the "Connect Progress" screen when it indicates the topology "Update succeeded".

Connecting to a Seagate Gateway:

1. Double click on the Check Point SecureClient R56 icon in the lower right corner of your Start bar (systray).

2. Select a site from the "Location Profile" drop down menu, closest to your location.

3. Enter your Autentication information as described in the previous section of this document.

4. Click Connect.

5. Click OK on the "Connect Progress" screen when it indicates that the "Connection succeeded".
