Individual Leadership Development Plan
|What: My Personal Leadership Development Goals |
|Consider the concepts that outline the skills, knowledge and competencies that represent great performance in leadership. Based on |
|self-assessments, class discussions and activities, projects and articles from class, select at least two areas in which you would like to develop |
|as a leader. You may focus only on your current role, or you might select one area that applies to your current role and one area that is more |
|aspirational. Write specific goals describing how/what you want to change or improve in the areas of leadership. |
|Ask yourself: What can I do differently/better that would make the greatest positive impact in my work as a leader? What development priorities will|
|give me the greatest leverage in improving my individual leadership competencies? |
| |
|Goal 1- My first goal is to increase my emotional intelligence. By increasing my emotion intelligence I can create stronger relationships with my |
|team. If I can understand my team, I can figure out how to inspire them to work to the best of their ability. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
|Goal 2- My second goal is to improve my work ethic at school. The leader should be the one who is working the hardest in the group, and that is |
|something I need to work on. I need to stop procrastinating also. Procrastination just slows a team down and decreases how well the assignment turns|
|out to be. If I improve my work ethic, I can motivate others to work harder. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
|Goal 3- My third goal is to be prepared for anything. I want to be able to change my ideas quickly when new situations arise, instead of get nervous|
|about it. I need to set more goals for myself, because if I have goals prepared, and steps I can do to obtain, I can be more prepared for a new |
|situation. I would just need to fix one or two steps to obtaining my goal and the problem could be solved. |
| |
| |
| |
|How: Action Steps I Will Take to Meet My Leadership Goals |
|Identify what you need to stop doing, start doing and keep doing on the job. These short-term actions will contribute directly to your long-term |
|goals. Select at least 3 examples. |
|1. Plan your actions. |
|Implement something every day. What situations, people or events signal |What new behavior will I try? Where will I push my comfort zone? |
|that right now is the time to put new behaviors into action? | |
|Every time I see the following situations: |…I will take the following action: |
|1. When I get a new assignment or project… |…I will start working on it right away, instead of procrastinating. |
|2. When I see someone upset or not working their best… |…I will go and talk with them, listen to what is wrong, and figure out how|
| |I can make them feel better. |
|3. When I have a new goal in mind… |…I will write it down, and the steps I can take to obtain it. |
|4. | |

|2. Anticipate obstacles. These are things that would be considered your weaknesses that you have in which you have to overcome to improve as a |
|leader. Look back to your Leadership Questionnaires. |
|WATCH OUT: What barriers can I identify which might hinder me in pursuing my development goals? How can I overcome these barriers? |
|Obstacle/Barrier |Solution |
|1. Procrastination |I can find ways to motivate myself to work, and get the job done early |
| |on. That way, I wouldn’t have to be stressed out about the work. |
| | |
| | |
|2. Shyness |I can be braver, and put myself into situations where I meet new people. |
| |Instead of staying quite, I will speak up and talk to people. |
| | |
| | |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
|3. Leverage strengths. |
|HINT: I have great strengths upon which to draw. Which of my strengths can I leverage to help me achieve my development goals? Look back to your |
|Leadership Questionnaires to help you identify your biggest strengths. |
|Strength |How will it help me achieve my goals? |

| |and how to make the team a real team. |

| |them. I also believe in the people I work with, which increase |
| |productivity, With this, I can also understand my team better and |
| |increase my emotional intelligence. |

| |
|How will I draw on my coach, peers and others to track my progress, gather advice and feedback and support my learning? |
|I can ask my coach and my friends/peers to let me know when I am doing something well, and when I am doing something work. If I know what I am doing|
|right, I can continue doing them. If I know what I am doing wrong, I can fix those things and improve them. |
| |
| |
|With whom should I share my development plan? |
|I will share my development plans with my family, and my close friends. They are the people that will understand what I am trying to do, and can |
|help me better myself. |

|I expect to see significant progress by the end of the third marking period of school. All of my goals I can reach, as long as I work towards them. |
|Two of my goals are also related to how I work at school, so I need to be able to improve them so I can get better grades next marking |
|period/semester. |
| |
| |
| |
|How will I evaluate my progress? |
|I will evaluate my progress by talking to my parents and my peers. After I explain to them what my goals are, they will understand what I am working|
|towards, so they will know if I am improving myself or not. |
| |
| |
|How will I update my development strategy and learning plan? When will I review my plan with those who helped me create it? |
|I will update my development strategy and learning plan by reviewing this document, and checking to see how I can improve myself more, and make sure|
|I am sticking with the corrections that I wanted to make. I will review this plan after I believe I have made progress on my goals. |
| |
| |
| |
|How will I leverage/take advantage of what I learn? |
|When I learn new things, I will take advantage of it and it apply it to myself. If I get good advice, I need to use it to my advantage, otherwise it|
|is wasted. |
