MIDDLE ATLANTIC PGA PROFESSIONALS BECOME FIRST HUSBAND-

WIFE DUO TO EARN PGA PROFESSIONAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BERTHS

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Patty Post was planning to caddie for husband, Brendon, at the 2007 PGA Professional National Championship.

How quickly things can change in golf, especially when both husband and wife can play the game well.

Patty, a 29-year-old former Futures Tour professional and the new women’s golf coach at Georgetown University, will join husband, Brendon Post, a 36-year-old PGA director of instruction at Club Golf in Gaithersburg, Md., in their debut in the 312-player national field, June 21-24, at Sunriver (Ore.) Resort.

The first husband-wife duo to compete in the National Championship, the Posts earned their berths through the Middle Atlantic PGA Championship, Aug. 21-23, at renowned Congressional Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md. Brendon finished runner-up at 5-under-par 210, after three consecutive rounds of 70, while Patty tied for 12th at 5-over-par 220 after rounds of 72, 73 and 75. Patty is the second woman to earn a PGA Professional National Championship berth, joining Suzy Whaley of Farmington, Conn., who competed in 2002 and 2004.

Like Whaley, Post competed from tees that were 85 percent of the men’s tees, to gain a berth. Husband Brendon competed from 7,067 on Congressional’s Blue Course and 6,702 on the Gold Course. Patty and five other women PGA Professionals in the 207-player field competed from 6,027 and 5,748 yards, respectively, in the Section Championship.

“I think both Brendon and I playing in the National Championship is great; it’s a great opportunity,” said Patty, who was a Futures Tour member full-time from 2003 to 2004, and was elected to PGA membership last June. “I got to play with Suzy Whaley in a Futures Tour event in 2003 in Connecticut. Suzy is a great one to follow.”

After two rounds at Congressional Country Club, Brendon said that he purposely didn’t let his wife know that she stood on the verge of also earning a National Championship berth.

“I didn’t want to mention it to her, and I just concentrated the final day on staying focused,” said Brendon. “I think it’s cool that we have both earned a trip to Oregon. I’m excited.”

Dick Johns, Executive Director of the Middle Atlantic PGA Section added: "We have a great contingent of 16 MAPGA professionals heading to Oregon, but we could not be happier that two outstanding individuals like Brendon and Patty are able to make the trip together."

Brendon and Patty first met in 2001 at Fair Oaks Golf Park in Fairfax, Va. Brendon was then director of golf and Patty was employed by Acushnet as an equipment tester for the company’s research and development department.

The couple took turns caddying for each other in both Tour and Section events the past several years, but next summer’s trip to Oregon will be a radical change.

“Since we’ve been together, neither one of us has competed, where caddies are required, without caddying for the other person,” said Brendon. “We’ll have to work out who our caddies will be. I can’t trust anyone else but Patty.”

Brendon’s previous best opportunities to earn a National Championship trip were in 2002 and 2004 in the former Eastern and Southern PGA Professional Championships. He missed the cut on both occasions. He said that this year’s Section Championship experience was different.

“I’ve learned a lot from those two previous disappointments,” said Brendon, “The biggest thing is to just be patient. I think I learned the most from watching Patty play. You learn to just hang in there, because you never know what is going to happen.”

“We both entered the Section Championship with different goals,” said Patty. “Brendon’s goal was to win a spot in the National Championship. I wanted to just play the best golf possible. I find I have different attitude in an event when playing against the men. I’m not results-oriented, and concentrate on just playing good shots.”

The PGA Professional National Championship is presented by Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra; Buick and Club Car. The Greg Norman Collection is the Official Golf Apparel of the championship. The Golf Channel is the exclusive media partner, presenting live televised coverage, and The PGA Tour is a contributing partner.

The 2007 National Championship field will be comprised of players representing 41 Section PGA Professional Championships conducted in 2006.

The PGA Professional National Championship, which originated in 1968, will mark its second visit to scenic Sunriver Resort, and first since 2001, when Wayne DeFrancesco, a Middle Atlantic PGA member from Baltimore, Md., won the Walter Hagen Cup.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary, The PGA of America was founded in 1916, and is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.
