FREEDOM FROM PARENTAL CURSES II

FREEDOM FROM PARENTAL CURSES II

In our first study, we considered the reality of parental curses and the reasons why those curses are there (Proverbs 26:2) which include:

1) Beholding parental nakedness and bringing shame on ones parents (Genesis 9:20-27).

2) Defiling parental matrimonial bed in all forms and shapes (Genesis 49:3,4).

3) Bringing undue stress and insecurity on ones parents as a result of hooliganism, rascality, personal wickedness and callousness (Genesis 49:5-7)

4) Lying to and deceiving ones parents (Genesis 27:12,13).

5) Misappropriating and stealing of parental funds and property (Judges 17:1-3; Proverbs 28:24).

6) Excruciating and bitter parental circumstances (1 Chronicles 4:9,10; 1 Samuel 4:19-22).

7) Rudeness to and disregard of parents (Exodus 20:12; 21:17; Leviticus 20:9; Proverbs 20:20; 30:11,17; Matthew 15:4-6; Mark 7:10-13; Hosea 10:13; 8:7; Galatians 6:7,8).

8) Neglect of and callousness to parents when in position to help (Proverbs 11:26; 28:27).

We have already seen that the first step towards the removal of these parental curses is genuine repentance and faith in Christ. Trying to cancel parental curses without repentance from sin is a waste of time. Sin gives the enemy legal ground to afflict and a basis for curses to be effective in our lives. General repentance from personal sins as well as specific repentance from the peculiar sins that led to the pronouncement of the parental curses is mandatory. Mercy is only promised to the repentant (Proverbs 28:13). Repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9,10; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Romans 10:9-13; 1 John 1:7-9; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Acts 17:30).

RESTITUTION TO PARENTS CONCERNED

Judges 17:1-3; Genesis 20:7,14-18; Job 42:1-10; Hosea 10:12; Luke 15:12-24; Proverbs 28:13.

Following genuine repentance, restitution needs to be made to the parents concerned – apologising for past misbehaviour, uncovering past lies and deception, restoring stolen property or misappropriated funds, etc.

When Micah restituted concerning the stolen money, it opened a way for the mother to reverse the curse and bless him (Judges 17:1-3).

Restitution brought about a reversal of the curse and a blessing on the entire family of Abimelech (Genesis 20:7,14-18).

Job’s three friends averted God’s wrath when they apologised to Job and Job prayed for them (Job 42:1-10).

Genuine restitution to our parents will pave the way for the reversal of the curse. It will make them to personally revoke the curse(s) and to pronounce blessing instead. This is the simplest and surest way to breaking parental curses. Repenting of former dishonour and rudeness to our parents whilst now substituting it with honour and reverence will surely bring blessing and longevity (Exodus 20:12; Proverbs 20:20). Sowing in righteousness will enable us to reap in mercy (Hosea 10:12). Parents will always joyfully receive the returning, restituting prodigal and bless where they previously cursed (Luke 15:12-24; Proverbs 28:13).

REVOKING THROUGH PERSONAL CONFESSION

1 Chronicles 4:9,10; Isaiah 8:10; 10:27; Galatians 3:13,14; Numbers 23:23; Psalm 107:2,13-16,19,20,28-30; 118:17; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 6:16.

In the case of Jabez, it seems as if there is no longer any mother to go to reverse the curse placed on him at birth as his name suggests. However, he went direct to God. The individual concerned can also stand in the gap for himself like Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9,10). Jabez’s life was dogged by defeat and lack of progress and this was probably due in part to the curse that attaches to his name. However he prayed to break the yoke and God answered.

We can personally revoke every parental curse after we have fulfilled all righteousness for God can revenge all disobedience and reverse every curse when our obedience is complete (2 Corinthians 10:6). We can break the pattern of influence of the parental curse over our lives.

Now that God is with you, every evil counsel and decree against your life shall come to nought, and every evil word or curse shall not stand (Isaiah 8:10). The time has come for the burden of parental curses to be taken away from off your shoulder, and the yoke from off your neck. Let the anointing destroy the yoke (Isaiah 10:27).

Appropriate the benefit of your redemption in cancelling every curse and its evil effects (Galatians 3:13,14; Numbers 23:23; Psalm 107:2,13-16,19,20,28-30).

Every curse is accompanied with demonic arrows wreaking havoc. Use your shield of faith to quench every fiery dart of the wicked arising from parental curses (Ephesians 6:16).

Use the weapons of our warfare that are mighty through God to pull down every stronghold that parental curses have erected in your life (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Revoke curse, death, destruction and declare blessing, life and fruitfulness (Psalm 118:17). Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Declare why the curse should be destroyed and you must be justified. (Proverbs 18:21; Isaiah 43:26-28).

RELEASE THROUGH PASTORAL CANCELLATION

Deuteronomy 33:6-8; 1 Chronicles 4:9,10; John 20:22,23; Numbers 6:22-27; Isaiah 10:27; 61:1-4; Luke 4:18-21; 10:19; Matthew 18:18,19; 16:19.

Though Reuben, Simeon and Levi had been cursed by Jacob their father and Jacob was no longer alive to reverse the curses, there is the possibility of a total or partial release through pastoral cancellation. Though over 400 years separated the curse and Moses’ pastoral blessing, the Lord is merciful.

Notwithstanding the former curse, Moses proclaimed “Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few” (Deuteronomy 33:6). Levi was also blessed (Deuteronomy 33:8) and Simeon who shares inheritance with Judah will probably be included in Judah’s blessing (Deuteronomy 33:7).

In cases where the parents are no longer alive, the gospel minister can exercise divine authority in cancelling parental curses after all things have been properly done (John 20:22,23; Numbers 6:22-27; Isaiah 10:27; 61:1-4; Luke 4:18-21; 10:19; Matthew 18:18,19; 16:19).

God’s ministers have an amazing power to pronounce curses or cancel curses, pronounce blessings or cancel blessings (Numbers 6:22-27; 22:6; 23:8,20; 2 Kings 19-24; Ezekiel 44:30).

PRAYER POINTS

1) Repent of every known sin in your life. The wages of sin is death and destruction but the gift of God is eternal life (Romans 3:23; 6:23).

2) Repent of and confess all sins that have given your parents the legal right to curse you (Proverbs 26:2).

3) Repent and ask God for forgiveness and cleansing (1 John 1:6-9; Romans 10:9-13; John 1:12,13).

4) Promise the Lord that you will do restitution as soon as practicable in cases requiring restitution (Judges 17:1-3; Genesis 20:7,14-18; Job 42:1-10).

5) I revoke every parental curse operating in my life in the name of Jesus (Psalm 118:17; Deuteronomy 33:6; Isaiah 8:8-10).

6) I take authority over every parental curse operating in my life and command all of them to be broken in the mighty name of Jesus (Galatians 3:13,14; Isaiah 8:8-10).

7) I command all evil spirits associated with any parental curse to leave me now in the name of Jesus. Let every strongman associated with each curse be bound in Jesus’ name (Matthew 12:29; Luke 11:21,22).
