Professional Experience

TPICAP (FORMERLY TULLETT PREBON) / JERSEY CITY, NJ 2016-PRESENT

Senior Virtualization Engineer

Served as primary virtualization SME for the Americas region of a global financial services company. Performed upgrade and build out of more than 60 ESXi hosts nondisruptively to vSphere 6.0. Served as secondary support for messing on Exchange 2010/O365 messaging and provided global server support using the follow-the-sun model.

Selected Achievements & Solutions

← Nondisruptively upgraded Americas to vSphere 6.0. Upgraded vCenter and over 60 ESXi hosts across 4 datacenters on 2 continents. Also built lab and planned upgrade to vSphere 6.5 with vCenter high availability.

← Built out many vSphere clusters to support expansion. Cory has built dozens of primary, DR, and branch office ESXi environments on 6.7 and 7.0 on HPE Proliant and Cisco UCS hardware to over 300 ESXi servers globally

← Designed and implemented reliable and scalable global Zabbix monitoring system. Replaced a number of paid monitoring solutions with a single free solution. Servers automatically register to Zabbix and it automatically discovers all storage and applies baseline item collection and alert triggers. Monitoring went from a few key systems with their own monitoring software to a single pane of glass for all servers in every datacenter globally.

← Developed customized automation. Wrote custom monitoring, deployment, data retrieval and other automation. Cory has a computer science background and automates everything where possible and practical. Automation shrinks the footprint of human error.

← Developed custom VMWare stat collection. Cory wrote a PowerCLI script that collects a year of historical data from an arbitrary list of vCenters and draws historical charts with chart.js-based html/javascript front end.

Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide / Parsippany, NJ 2008-2016

IBM (in support of Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide)

Senior Network Administrator

Began career as a Desktop Support technician, hired as an employee and promoted to the Networking department within the first 3 months. Initially supported network operations across corporate campus, later led the P2V conversion of hundreds of servers and the build-out of VMware vCenter clusters utilizing Netapp SAN/NFS storage, and the successful redesign of a low performing Exchange 2010 environment with a DAG cluster on inexpensive DAS storage.

Lead member of a team of 3 charged with the design, implementation, and maintenance of physical and virtual infrastructure supporting 40+ applications spanning hundreds of servers deployed across two physical private datacenters and public cloud VMs deployed at IBM SoftLayer and/or Rackspace.

Selected Achievements & Solutions

← Responsible for the 24x7 technical operations of infrastructure and core business systems/applications. Managed and mentored a team a team of resources in support of 24x7 operations. Held team members accountable to tasks and deliverables to reduce duplication of effort and increased productivity.

← Conducted and led an assessment of existing physical systems and completed large P2V conversion. Was able to decommission dozens of physical servers to consolidate and reduce power consumption and rack space. This allowed the organization to reuse and repurpose hardware assets and shrink the datacenter footprint.

← Developed customized Powershell automation scripts to apply regularly scheduled patch updates. Designed and implemented a system that automatically patched all non-production windows systems on a set schedule and generated reports required to ensure SOX compliance. Solution ensured windows patches would never be installed in production without first being tested in development.

← Developed customized Powershell scripts for automated server monitoring. Developed custom scripts to provide enhanced monitoring of internal applications on regular intervals. Custom monitoring were configured to trigger What’s Up Gold system alerts so that all monitoring, alerting, and reporting would be centrally unified.

← Conceived and implemented new workflow process for the backup of terminated user accounts. Prior to this process, DVDs were burned for each terminated user. This became less practical over time as data sizes grew, so a system was set up using commodity hardware and ZFS to ensure efficient storage of terabytes of backups with industry leading data integrity. The process of terminated users and retrieving this data if needed is vastly faster and easier.

← Wrote custom Powercli command line headers to manage many VMware ESXi servers. Created a process for the unified management of 10 ESXi development hosts without requiring an upgrade to VMware vCenter.

Verizon Wireless – Basking Ridge, NJ 2008

(assignment through API Systems Inc.)

IT Consultant

Responsible for the imaging and deployment of 500+ laptops and desktops as part of Verizon’s hardware refresh project.

Service Electric Cable TV – Sparta, NJ 2004-2006

Cable modem technical support for the world’s first cable company

Technical Support Analyst

Assisted end users with technical problems configuring their cable modem or e-mail clients.

Personal Projects

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

← Developed a PHP/javascript photo gallery script. Wrote Goodgallery. which can generate thumbnails for thousands of images reliably and used javascript to preload and swap images for and “instant loading” effect

← Developed S80.us latency tool. This tool is superior to command line ping for most connection troubleshooting tasks and has the advantage of being able to run on any device with a browser. Current: Beta: It leverages Cloudflare’s global CDN to ensure minimal latency to any endpoint globally. Handled millions of requests in the first hour after launch

← Created a Raspberry Pi Covid info tracker. Cory used a raspberry pi and a 1 inch SPI interface display to display a constant ticker of covid metrics. The display is run by a python script polling a rest API that updates via cron job.
