New! Engineering Hands on Math Ages 6-12

Engineering and mathematics go hand-in-hand, as professionals in the field use math extensively to solve problems and create inventions that make our lives easier. Industrial engineers use math to determine how many toy cars a factory should produce per day, for example, but also the tons of raw materials needed to make those cars, timing the assembly line process just right, and also figuring out how many people are needed to operate the factory. Civil engineers use math to determine the loads of cars and trucks on a bridge in order to calculate the size of the beams, girders, and steel necessary to support the structure so nothing collapses! Marine engineers have to understand pressure variables and material strength in order to build the safest boats and submarines to keep their occupants safe and sound. In the activities for Math Week, you will see firsthand how geometry, algebra, and arithmetic play an important role in the construction of successful engineering designs!
