Seniors: This is the 9th edition of the Senior Notes. We will update Monthly with any new scholarships that we receive through mail or e-mail. Of course this is not all the scholarships that are available. It is up to you to research what is out there. There are some websites provided for you to explore. Also once you decide what College you are going to attend, you can look at their scholarship offers on the college website or get in touch with the College Financial Aid office. If you need more information on any of these, we have a scholarship bulletin board located in the guidance office. If a website is indicated with the scholarship, then go to that website to apply or find out more information. See your counselor or Mrs. Twitty if you have any questions.

Sumter High School Spring break is April 15-22 so if a scholarship has a deadline that week you must see your counselor before April 11 so the deadline can be met. We will not be at school that week.

Recovery Village Health Care Scholarship: A $1,000 award will be given to a student pursuing a health-related degree program. Areas of study that will be considered include, but are not limited to, counseling, social work, emergency medicine, pre-med, nursing, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or a substance-abuse related field). Applicants must submit an essay no more than 500 words describing why they are passionate about health care, with a focus on substance abuse and mental health. Essays can draw from personal or professional experience. In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria: U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident, Enrolled or accepted in an accredited college or university and plan to continue enrollment, Consent to a talent release and be willing to provide a digital photograph and quote for display on Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS) websites if notified as the winner. The Student-View Scholarship is a unique opportunity for high school seniors. It is open to all students regardless of academic achievement or financial need. Student Insights will award the following prizes: (Select your state below to apply) Deadline is April 22, 2019

One (1) individual prize of a $4,000 scholarship. Two (2) individual prize of a $1,000 scholarship. It is exceptionally easy to apply: NO minimum SAT or ACT score NO

minimum grade point average NO lengthy, time-consuming paperwork NO essays NO application fees. Simply complete a 15-25-minute online survey about local colleges. You will then be automatically entered into a random drawing for a scholarship award.

The Goat Island Boat Club, whose members reside around the shores of beautiful Lake Marion, has sponsored a merit scholarship program since 2008 to provide financial assistance to high school seniors residing in the counties surrounding the lakes and to SC college students majoring in environmentally focused areas. For 2019, the Board of Directors has approved a $2000 scholarship award payable to the financial aid office of the academic institution in the name of the winner. Applicants must be either (1) a graduating high school senior residing in one of the five counties that border Lakes Marion and Moultrie who will be attending an institution of higher learning in the fall of 2018 regardless of the field of study or (2) a SC student already enrolled in an institution of higher learning studying marine biology, forestry, fisheries, wildlife management, or other field focused on environmental protection and/or the Santee Cooper lake and river systems. Bertila's Foundation Scholarship: for high school seniors and college students. Must have a 3.0 GPA and at least 20 hours of community service. Applications are in the guidance office. See Mrs. Twitty for an application. The deadline is June 17, 2019.

The George Rogers Foundation (First in Family Scholarship): This is to provide scholarships for first in family students in need of financial assistance to pursue a college education. Criteria is: South Carolina Resident, first in Family student which is defined as a student who will be the first person in their family to attend a 2 or 4-year college, and a graduating senior. Applications are located in the guidance office. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 12, 2019. See Ms. Twitty for an application.

Sumter High School Class of 1995 Scholarship: This is provided by the SHS class of 1995. Applications are in the guidance office and are due back to Ms Twitty no later than May 3, 2019. See Ms. Twitty for an application.

Sumter High School Memorial Scholarship: The Memorial Scholarship Loan Fund, now incorporated under the South Carolina law, was first established during the 1945 ? 46 school year by students in memory of Sumter men who lost their lives in World War II. During the 1984 ? 85 school year, the Student Council proclaimed that the fund should be a memorial for all Sumter High School graduates who had died defending democracy, including the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. Additional memorials have been added to the Fund such as the J.E. Logan Memorial Fund, the Class of 1975 Memorial Scholarship Loan, and contributions in the name of Dr. Lawrence G. Derthick Jr., Superintendent of District 17 Schools from 1982 to 1992. This loan fund became a scholarship fund in the late 1990s. The following is an outline of the eligibility requirements: Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative Grade Point Average, Applicants must be of good character and personal integrity, Scholarships are granted once to the current senior class. Deadline for applying is Friday April 12, 2019. All applications must be delivered to the Guidance office by Friday April 12, 2019(applications are available in the guidance office. WWDM Brenda Jones Memorial Scholarship: This $5000 scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating African-American high school senior who reside in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield or Sumter counties. Applicants must: Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 to be eligible. Be accepted by an accredited college or university at the time of the scholarship award. Meet financial need requirement. Applicants must submit the following: An official high school transcript, A copy of SAT and/or ACT scores, Documentation of involvement in community activities and service projects, Copy of household's 2018 income tax return or FAFSA, Recent photograph, Copy of college or university acceptance letter, Two letters of recommendation, 375 word essay.

Applications can be picked up in the guidance office and must be postmarked April 17, 2019. That is Spring Break so return applications no later than April 11th so they can be processed by your counselor.

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Columbia Urban League Scholarship 2019: This $5000 scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating African-American high school senior who reside in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield or Sumter counties. Ebenezer Alumni Association Scholarship: will award 6 scholarships at $1000 each to a graduating high school senior. Three academic scholarships and three economic scholarships will be awarded. Applications are in the Guidance office. See Ms. Twitty for an application. Applications must be postmarked by May 11, 2019

Charlie Kubala Memorial Scholarship: Criteria is Sumter County resident, attend a high school in Sumter County, be a high school senior graduating this year (2019), must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The funds must be used for college related expenses. Go to scholarship to apply and find our more information. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 26, 2019.
