YouTube is a Web 2.0 application that allows registered users to broadcast a variety of media, including audio and video files (up to 100MB or 10 minutes). Any individual can view the media files using the internet.
The target audience for this application is individuals of any age, although the majority of users are teenagers and/or young adults.
The purpose of this software is to allow registered user to broadcast media to the general population across the internet through websites, mobile devices, blogs and emails. Registered users can upload an unlimited amount of videos and music (up to 100MB or 10 minutes) to the internet.
The user interface is easy to use; gives clear directions to registered users how to upload content. Searching videos and audio files (by subject, keyword, title, etc.) is easy to use as well. There is a search box at top-center of the homepage.

is based on Macromedia’s Flash Player and uses Sorenson spark H.263 video codec. Users usually have to download and install a web browser plugin in order to view videos. Videos can be played back with Windows Media Player, QuickTime, RealPlayer as well as third-party media players such as GOM Player, gnash, VLC and ffmpeg-based video players. allows users to upload videos in .wmv, .avi, .mov, .mpeg, and .mp4 formats. The videos are converted into .flv (Adobe flash video) format after uploading. Additionally, streams MP3 or FLV audio files.
