Name: ________________ M2(0 ) Date: ________Your Element: ______________________ M2 Science – Elements & the Periodic Table - ELEMENT CARTOON CHARACTER POSTERDirections: During this project you will research an element of your choosing. You will use the most interesting information you learn to create a cartoon character and a poster. Check off the steps when you have completed them. HAVE A LOOK AT THE SAMPLE POSTER RIGHT AWAY!? Research your element using books or, if you use the Internet, these websites only. The information you need to find and include in your poster is your element’s properties (including AN and MN), history (including where the name comes from), uses, and fun facts.? Using your imagination and the information that inspires you most, create a character based on your element. The character should incorporate your element’s properties, history, uses, and fun facts.? Draw the character so it will fit on half a piece of 8.5x11 paper in landscape position. Draw it with pencil first. Then, complete it with colored pencil, crayon, or pastels. (No markers please!) You can also use collage techniques. ? Make the character be part of a diagram that also includes the element name, symbol and atomic number.? ABOUT THE ELEMENT: Write a paragraph about your element. The paragraph should include characteristics, uses, history, and other interesting information about the element. ? ABOUT THE CARTOON CHARACTER: Write a brief paragraph about the cartoon character. Why did you draw the character the way you did? What things about the element inspired you or gave you the idea to create the character?? ABOUT THE ARTIST: Write a brief paragraph about the artist (you). The paragraph should include characteristics, history, and other interesting information about YOU!? Attach the three paragraphs to the right side of your element poster.-1143003683000Copernicum (formerly Ununbium) by Arthur Dent, M2(07)About the ElementCopernicum (Cn) – formerly called Ununbium (Uub) – is element number 112, which means it has 112 protons in its nucleus. It is a heavy metal that only exists in the laboratory. It is made by firing zinc travelling 30,000 km per second at lead for two weeks and was first made in 1996 in Darmstadt, Germany. It has no known uses because only a few atoms of it have ever been made. It has a circular molecular structure and is presumed radioactive should elements exist together. About the Character and DrawingI loved the idea of "Heavy Metal" since it is a kind of music I really like, to the dismay of my adult children. I Googled heavy metal images and got lots of guitars, which was the basis for my print. I used the molecular structure on the guitar. I used a solar plate. I initially printed on neat silver paper, but the ink hasn't dried yet. I also used up my last intaglio solar plate before I realized that I had not reversed the letters and numbers. So this is a relief solar plate with which I have not had experience. 262890067945000About the ArtistI am a printmaker currently residing in Indianapolis. I got my BFA in printmaking at the University of Michigan. I worked nights in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit to pay for my education, and I loved every moment of art school and living in Ann Arbor, MI. 0-2913380Copernicum (Cn)Copernicum (Cn)35433006604000 11 inches 8 ? inches Name: __________________ M2(0 ) Date: _________ELEMENT CARTOON CHARACTER POSTER RUBRICILLUSTRATION: Character is based on relevant information about the element3 ptsIncludes AN, symbol, name3 ptsDiagram is drawn carefully to clearly show information about the element1 ptWRITTEN WORK:Research about the element is accurate1 pt“About the Element” paragraph includes: History2 ptCharacteristics 2 ptUses2 ptFun facts2 pt“About the Character” paragraph clearly explains why you drew the character the way you did – what inspired you2 ptCOMMENTS: ................
