Tiered Lesson Plan: Body Systems

Standard: S7L2e. Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (digestion, respiratory, reproductive, circulatory, excretory, movement, control, coordination and protection from disease).

Complete ONE from each Tier.

Tier 1 Activities

1) Paper People- Draw and label a picture of the human body with body systems. Include all major organs. On the side list all the body systems and give their function.

2) Flashcards- Read about all major body systems from your science textbook. Write a summery of each of the systems including organs involved in each system and their functions.

Tier 2 Activities

1) Choose one body system and gather information on this system. Include information on each of the organs located in this system, functions, types of problems/diseases associated with this system and location in the body. Explain your results in an essay that you will present to the class.

2) Choose one body system and gather information on this system. Include information on each of the organs located in this system, functions, types of problems/diseases associated with this system and location in the body. Create a Power-Point presentation that you will share with the class on your system.

Tier 3 Activities

1) Your teacher will assign you a body system. Create a song or a poem that describes your system. The song or poem must be at least 10 lines long. Make sure you include details about the organs associated with the system and its function.

2) Your teacher will assign you a body system. Create a song or a skit that describes your system. The skit must be at least 2 minutes long. Make sure you include details about the organs associated with the system and its function.

3) Create a game board using the vocabulary from this unit. You can also include organ systems & organs in the game. You must include instructions on how to play your game. Make the game playable--- meaning if there are cards that players draw from, include the cards.
