PUBLISHER DIRECTIONS:

To make a Newsletter...

1) Click on START at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

2) Click on PROGRAMS, then on MICROSOFT OFFICE, and then

MICROSOFT PUBLISHER.

3) On the left side, choose NEW FROM A DESIGN

4) Then click on PUBLICATIONS FOR PRINT

5) Scroll down and click on NEWSLETTERS.

6) Choose from the different layouts and designs.

7) Decide whether you want to print one-sided or two-sided. (Note you

can’t print two-sided at this school.)

8) Click on PAGE CONTENT and select the way you want your columns

arranged. Select APPLY TO ALL PAGES or APPLY TO THE PAGE

you are working.

9) Next select the color scheme of your choice.

10) Next decide on your desired font from the FONT SCHEMES

11) Close the section (the wizard) on the left by clicking on the X on the

right of the words, NEW PUBLICATION

12) To have a clear view of the newsletter or work space, click on the down

arrow by the percentage (%) or on the hand lens with the plus sign on

the top menu toolbar.

13) You are now ready to begin your newsletter by inserting pictures and

text.

14) To replace existing text or picture, click on the section in your

newsletter that you want to work on to make sure it is selected.

15) To begin typing your text information click on the text boxes and

start typing.

16) To delete a text box. Click on the box and may sure it is

selected and press the delete button.

17) To insert a text box on a page. Click on page where you want the box inserted. Then go to INSERT, TEXT BOX. Click inside the text box. Choose font style and size by clicking on FORMAT on the top menu bar. Then begin typing your text in the box. Stretch text box to desired size and drag box to position required. Double click on text box to make changes to FILL COLOR, LINE options: Color, Dashed, Style or Weight; and to add BORDERART, if you so wish. Then when satisfied with preview, click OK.

18) To insert a picture or WordArt…Click on the picture area then select

one of the methods below:

To add a clipart picture or image

a) Click on INSERT, PICTURE, highlight CLIPART.

b) Search for a picture by typing keyword in box under “Search for”. Then click GO.

c) Click on INSERT once you find a picture to add to your newsletter.

To add a downloaded image from the Internet:

1) Locate an image/picture on the Internet.

2) Right mouse click on the image and select “SAVE PICTURE AS”.

3) Select “DESKTOP” from the “SAVE IN” drop down menu.

4) Name the picture file and click “Save”.

5) In the Newsletter, click on INSERT, PICTURE, FROM FILE.

6) Select “DESKTOP” from the “LOOK IN” drop down menu.

7) Locate the picture and click “INSERT”.

To add a saved image from your floppy, CD, or USB:

1) Click on INSERT, PICTURE, FROM FILE.

2) Select the drive you are using from the “LOOK IN” drop down menu.

3) Locate the picture and click “INSERT”.

To insert WordArt:

1) Click on INSERT, PICTURE, highlight WORDART.

2) Select font, size and WordArt style.

3) Type in text in TEXT box. Then click OK.

4) Drag and arrange WordArt to the desired position on your project.

19) To rotate or flip an object:

1) Select object (ex. image or text box) by clicking on it.

2) Next hold the mouse over the green circle at the top of the object.

3) You can then rotate or flip the object in the direction you wish

OR

4) You can also flip or rotate an object by first selecting the object by clicking on it.

5) Then click on DRAW on menu bar at the bottom of the screen and choose the type of rotation

or type of flip that you want.

20) To add a page click on the page number found on the squares on the

toolbar at bottom of program or click on the page itself. Then go to

INSERT, PAGE on the top menu bar. Decide on whether you want a

left-hand or a right-hand page added.

21) A right-hand page addition is better for newsletter. Click on the

drop down arrow and choose from the list of options, ex. Story.

22) Click on MORE to see the other options that you have, such as,

a. The number of new pages, before or after the current page.

b. Also you can either insert blank pages; create one text box on each

page or duplicate all objects on a page – here you would enter the

page number that you want the object duplicated from.

23) If you are creating a magazine layout you may wish to create a cover page. To do this insert a blank page before the first page. Insert a picture and stretch it to cover the whole page. Next insert a text box. Type in your caption in the box. Right click on picture and choose ORDER and click on SEND TO BACK (text box with caption should now be on the top of the image).

24) If you have extra pages in a publication and you wish to delete a page or two, click on the page(s). Go to EDIT, DELETE PAGE.

The delete page dialog box will give you the option of deleting

“both pages”, “left page only” or “right page only”.

25) Pages can also be added, deleted, duplicated, etc.. by right clicking

on the squares of the numbered pages on the toolbar at the

bottom of the program.

26) To SAVE your newsletter:

1) Click on FILE, highlight SAVE AS.

2) In the FILE name box, type a name for your project.

3) In the SAVE in box, choose the location in which you want to save the

presentation, ex. The H drive (the one with your account number). Then click

SAVE.

4) As you create your newsletter, from time to time, go to FILE, then SAVE to

make sure your work is not lost, especially during a power outage.

27) To PRINT, go to FILE, PRINT. In the printer dialog box choose

the NAME of the printer from which you wish to print.

1) Go to the Ferguson website:

2) Click on “Information Center” located on the left column.

3) Scroll down under the pictures and select “Atomic Learning”

4) Enter the username: 7121learner.

5) Enter the password: dadeschools.

6) Select “Our Tutorials” from the blue menu bar.

7) Click on the letter “P” on the alphabet menu.

8) Scroll down and select “Publisher 2003” from the list.
