South Central Pennsylvania Settlers

Emigrants from Lomersheim in Baden-Württemberg to the Middle ColoniesModern Germany identification:Lomersheim, District of Enzkreis, , State of Baden-Württemberg, Bundesrepublik Deutschland(or Lomersheim, Enzkreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany)Postal Code: 75417Abstracts of the Lomersheim Lutheran records are available via record search on . Narrow your search to Film 1187010. I am not a professional researcher; however, I have 20 years of experience working diligently with Colonial Pennsylvania records. My passion is piecing together early settlers, documenting their origin, settlement, and (if) subsequent migration. My primary area of focus is South Central Pennsylvania (viz., Franklin, Adams, York, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon, Lancaster, and Berks counties). I have not had opportunity to examine the original Lomersheim church books, which may identify other emigrants to the Middle Colonies. My work on the European side is rather primitive—relying primarily on abstracts available via . The actual church records should provide more information than abstracts placed online—including actual village of residence (some may have resided in satellite towns of Graben) and places of birth of the parents. Using transcribed records available via databases as well as my own knowledge of Pennsylvania records, I have attempted to document below emigrants from Lomersheim on both sides of the Atlantic. Please consider my work as a guideline for further research and verification—not as a professional publication. Original records should be consulted. ADVISEMENT: This file—as of April 2014—is not finished. Several emigrants have not been fully pursued in American records. I welcome any additional information. You may contact me through my website .Satellite images of Lomersheim available via Google MapsNote: In her work Eighteenth Century Emigrants from the Northern Kraichgau, Annette K. Burgert identified scores of German emigrants to Pennsylvania in the area just north of this map. Many more emigrants are waiting to be found and documented in the villages surrounding Lomersheim. Lomersheim Emigrants to the Middle ColoniesThe Adolph Gerber lists—published by Don Yoder in his compilation Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709-1786: Lists Consolidated from Yearbooks of The Pennsylvania German Folklore Society—includes documentation for Lomersheim emigrants either from the Ludwigsburg Protocol (or those who applied for permission to emigrate) or through the Lomersheim pastor looking for evidence of migration in the local church books. I found evidence of other emigrants via analysis of passenger lists, American church records, and the work of other genealogists. It is quite likely that there are other Eighteenth Century emigrants.Emigrant FamilyArrivalShipQualifiedNotesAichele, Anna MariaUncertain??found on Adolph Gerber listsBerner, Andreas1750Nancy31 Aug 1750found on Adolph Gerber listsBoger, Joseph1754Peggy16 Oct 1754found on Adolph Gerber listsFederhaff, Balthasar1750Nancy31 Aug 1750?Federhaff, Johann Georg1753Patience15 Sep 1753?Fidler, MelchiorUncertain??found on Adolph Gerber listsGantner, Augustinusc1754???Gantner, Christianc1754???Gantner, Gottliebc1753???Haux, Theodorus Friederich1753Patience15 Sep 1753?Heppler, Casper1748Patience16 Sep 1748?Jensel, Friederich1753Patience15 Sep 1753found on Adolph Gerber listsJensel, Michael1750Nancy31 Aug 1750found on Adolph Gerber listsMugler, BarbaraUncertain??found on Adolph Gerber listsRieder, Michael1750Nancy31 Aug 1750?Scheible, Bartholomaus1748Patience16 Sep 1748?Scheible, Michael1753Patience15 Sep 1753found on Adolph Gerber listsSchuster, Johannes1754Peggy16 Oct 1754found on Adolph Gerber listsSieger, George1750Nancy31 Aug 1750found on Adolph Gerber listsSieger, Johannes1753Patience15 Sep 1753found on Adolph Gerber listsVollmer, Johannes1750Nancy31 Aug 1750found on Adolph Gerber listsWiest, Jerg1754Bannister21 Oct 1754found on Adolph Gerber listsWunsch, Bernhard1750Nancy31 Aug 1750found on Adolph Gerber listsThe Federhaff FamilyThe family of Nicholas Federhaff & his wife Maria Catharina Fegart departed in two waves for America. After Nicholas’s death in 1733, his widow married Johannes Vollmer. In 1750, Johannes Vollmer, his wife, and stepson Balthasar Federhaff arrived at Philadelphia on the Ship Nancy. Three years later, Nicholas and Maria Catharina’s other two child Johann Georg Federhaff arrived at Philadelphia aboard the Ship Patience.Balthasar and George Federhaff resided briefly in the vicinity of the Borough of Lancaster in Lancaster County before removing to modern-day Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. Perhaps Federhaff’s death was missed during abstraction.)Note: An Abraham Federhaff, son of Catharine Federhaff, died 30 Aug 1735, aged 4 years, and was buried the following day. Did the transcriber err in regards to either Anna Maria or Abraham? Should this be the same child?—I find no baptism for an Abraham Federhaff, and the pastor always named the father.Johannes Vollmer, son of Johannes, married 21 Sep 1734 Catharina, the widow of Nicholas Federhaff.[see immigrant Johannes Vollmer in this file for children of this couple]Jacob Federhaff, son of Hans Jerg Federhaff, married 16 Apr 1720 Agnes Clara Rallen, daughter of Peter Rallen. He only appears on List A—at the very end. I sense that there may have been an error or mistake, as Johan George Federhaff signs List B at that same location—whereas on List A he had appeared earlier.PENNSYLVANIA RECORDS:Lancaster (Trinity) Lutheran KB, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania:Balthasar Federhaf, single, from Lomersheim in Wurttemberg married 29 Jan 1754 Catharina Sternin, widow. Since then he is a widower. Died of diarrhea. Aged 79 years, 8 months and 7 days.Note: I located this abstract online. Other records may be available. This church book is not available to me at the time of this compilation.Thedorus Friedrich Haux and his wife Anna Maria FederhaffIn the online church abstracts, Anna Maria’s father is identified as Jacob—however, more than a few descendants have placed her as the sister of Lomersheim emigrants Balthasar and Johann Georg Federhaff. The original church book should be consulted for verification. The Haux family resided in Frederick County, Maryland. I have not pursued this family beyond a cursory search of online records. Susanna’s father Friederich emigrated to the American Colonies in 1753. One year later Joseph & Susanna followed them. For a time, they all resided in the vicinity of Lancaster Borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Information posted by descendants online claim that Joseph migrated to Loudoun County, Virginia, where he died in 1783. However, this man is often identified as “Michael Joseph Boger.” I find no evidence of that name in German or Pennsylvania church records. Four children of Friederich Jensel and his wife Susanna Eglauss emigrated to America: Johann Friederich, Johann Michael, Susanna (wife of Joseph Boger), and Anna Maria (wife of Michael Rieder). In the entry the pastor describes the groom as "citizen and tailor of this place, legitimate son of Johann Caspar Heppler, citizen and tailor of Vaihingen". His daughter Barbara (perhaps his only surviving child) left for America with her husband Michael Jensel in 1750. His safe arrival at Philadelphia is notable in that few men of his advanced age undertook such an arduous journey. Unfortunately, I have yet to find evidence of him in Pennsylvania records.
