Dilation Project Directions and Rubric

This project is a major grade. All projects are due by 9/2/2014.

Directions:

1. Count the number of unit squares across the top and side of your piece. Write this under Table 1 Original Size on your Dilations Recording Worksheet

2. Determine the size of your new image (use scale factor). Write this under New Size.

3. Cut the graph paper to the size dimensions you calculated in Table 1.

4. Draw and number the x-axis and y-axis on your small square and on your graph paper.

5. Draw a point and label every vertex and where the line meets the edge of the paper.

6. For each point determine the coordinates and write this in Table 2 under Original Coordinates.

7. NOTE: you may have to estimate the coordinate. Try to be as close as possible; mistakes will be magnified in your dilated picture.

8. Use the scale factor and create a list of your new coordinates in Table 2 under New Coordinates.

9. Plot the new coordinates for each point onto the enlarged graphing paper.

10. Connect the points or coordinates and draw in any remaining part of your picture.

11. Color and decorate your image.

12. You must turn in this worksheet, the Recording Sheet, your original picture, and your dilated image.
