?Numerical GPAAll eligible courses in grades 9–12 shall be graded on a 100-point system using the semester grades.Eligible courses for the computation of the grade point average (GPA) shall include all courses taken for state or local high school credit in grades 9–12. Courses taken in summer or evening school, as well as approved traditional correspondence courses and courses taken for dual college credit, shall count toward the GPA. If necessary, the conversion table in EIC(REGULATION) shall be used to convert letter grades to numerical grades.Scores earned on either type of credit by examination, with or without prior instruction, shall not count toward the GPA.Unweighted GPAAll eligible courses in grade 9–12 shall be graded on a 100-point system using the semester grades. All eligible courses utilized in the calculation of the numerical GPA shall be utilized in the unweighted GPA. Weighted GPAA weighted GPA shall be calculated based on all eligible courses utilized in the calculation of the GPA. The weighted grade scale in EIC(REGULATION) shall be utilized for the conversion to determine the weighted GPA.Rank in Class OptionsThe Superintendent of Schools shall provide a process whereby a school may select one of two options for class rank. The first option, whereby all students in a class will be ranked, incorporates a weighted ranking system. For the second option, whereby only the top ten percent of a class will be ranked, a student’s class rank shall not be calculated or reported, except for the top ten percent of a given class. Class rank shall not appear on any student’s academic achievement record (transcript), except for those students in the top ten percent.Rank in Class ProcessThe Superintendent of Schools shall design a process to apply a weighted system based on course type to determine class rank.A student shall be notified for the first time of his or her rank at the end of the first semester in his or her sophomore year.Final top ten percent ranks shall be determined at the end of the student’s senior year.Weights shall be assigned to Texas Education Agency (TEA)-approved state high school graduation courses for determining class rank, as delineated in EIC(REGULATION).ConversionsConversion tables shall be established for the following situations in which letter grades are awarded instead of numerical grades:Letter grades from accredited schools; andLetter grades from an accredited college for students enrolled in a course that is utilized for state high school graduation credit.Equivalents shall be used to convert to numerical grades. [See EIC(REGULATION)] The converted grades shall be utilized for the various GPA calculations and the appropriate District weights for class rank. Honors courses from other districts that are not designated as honors courses in the District shall be evaluated according to the District’s course weights.Out-of-country students’ grade equivalency shall be determined by the evaluation of the students’ transcripts.Valedictorian and SalutatorianThe valedictorian and salutatorian shall be those students who are highest and second-highest based on rank in class completing the foundation high school program distinguished level of achievement graduation program.EligibilityTo be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian honors, a student shall be enrolled in his or her graduating school the last four semesters prior to graduation, exclusive of summer and evening school. Students entering after the third week of the first six weeks of the initial semester shall not be eligible for these honors.TiesShould a tie exist for valedictorian after all the class ranks are computed, the school shall declare two or more valedictorians. After the valedictorians are designated, the person(s) who came in second shall be designated salutatorian(s).Performance Acknowledgements Including the Seal of BiliteracyA student may earn performance acknowledgments for outstanding performance, including the seal of biliteracy on their transcript according to the foundation high school program. [See EIF(EXHIBIT)]Graduation with HonorsGraduation with honors shall utilize the numerical GPA calculation. Students who have a GPA of 85 to 89.9, inclusive, shall be graduates “with honors;” 90.0 to 94.9, inclusive, graduates with “high honors;” and 95 or above graduates with “highest honors.”These designations shall be given regardless of the graduation program completed by the student. In determining these distinctions, 0.05 to 0.09 shall be rounded up to the next tenth. For example, 89.95 shall become 90.0, while 89.94 shall become 89.9.TranscriptThe transcript shall at least display the numerical GPA based on a 100-point scale, an unweighted GPA based on a 4.0 scale, and a weighted GPA based on a 5.0 scale, class rank, date of rank, and class size.Student CommunicationAt the beginning of grades 9, 10, and 11, students shall have a certified counselor explain the requirements for automatic admission to a general academic teaching institution.
