Besides being a tool to implement a variety of mathematics topics, a spreadsheet is an excellent way to track student’s progress. It can quickly calculate sums, as well as allow experimenting with “what if” possibilities such as what if a student were to get 100 on the last test?

1. Examine the given spreadsheet file. It contains the grades on quizzes, projects, and test for a simulated class.

2. Select the names and data and use the sort option under the Data menu to alphabetize the names.

3. Add a column for quiz 7 and enter the following grades.

4. Add the necessary formulas to find the maximum and minimum grade for each quiz.

5. Add the necessary formulas to find each student’s course average with the conditions that the lowest quiz grade is dropped, the average of the remaining quizzes is 40% of the grade, the average of the project grades is 30% and the average of the test grades is 30%.

6. Format the average to be displayed as an integer

7. Calculate what Patty McDouglas’ grade is since she turned in her missing project and it received a grade of 70.

8. Add the necessary formula to find the overall test grade average.

9. Add the necessary formula to find the average of the student averages.

10. Label all values found and displayed.

11. Save file as “Computed Grades.xls”.
