HP Desktop PCs - Pre-Installed Windows 8 to Windows 7 Downgrade Using HP Recovery MediaCAUTION: To downgrade the Operating System You have to copy the Windows 8 Pro product ID before proceeding to format Windows 8 Pro, the Product ID is required for Windows 7 Pro activation. A gist of the steps needed to be done:Ensure BIOS is updated to the latestBackup Windows 8 Product ID InfoMake Changes in BIOS to enable allow Windows 7 InstallationCopy BuildID from Windows 7 MediaMake Necessary BIOS ChangesContact Microsoft with the Windows 8 Product ID if Windows 7 is not activatedSTEP 2To find the Windows 8 Pro Product ID:Boot the computer and complete the out of box experience (OOBE) until they are able to see the Windows 8 desktop. From the Windows 8 Start screen begin typing Computer. User will see the search screen change and the application, Computer be present at the top left of the screen. If user does not see it, check to the right navigation bar and make sure that the Apps category is selected.Right click on Computer and a taskbar will appear at the bottom. Click on Properties. A system window will appear.Navigate to the bottom of the screen to view the Product ID under the Windows Activation section. Copy down the 20 digit PID, user will need this to provide to Microsoft.STEP 3To install Windows 7 Pro properly, user has to change the Build ID, perform the steps mentioned below:To get the BuildID, edit the 1st CD , the Build ID is located at \HP\MLS\BUILDINFO.INI. Copy it + #SABF#DABF.Restart the PC.Press the ESC key during POST.Press the F10 key and go to Computer Setup (Optionally, user may press F10 from the Startup Menu).Press Ctrl + A to enable the advanced access to the BIOS.Go to the Security menu then System IDs In Build ID field insert the characters copied from the Disc and Append with “#SABF#DABF”.Go to the File menu then Save Change and Exit.NOTE: The user has to contact Microsoft Support to activate Windows 7 Pro operating system after Installation providing Windows 8 Product ID.To boot from CD/DVD drive, perform the steps mentioned below:Access BIOS by tapping F10 when the computer is turning onGo to the Security menu then Secure Boot.Confirm the message by pressing on F10.Set the second item Secure Boot to Disable.Set the first item Legacy Support to On. Set the last item Fast Boot to Disabled, Validate F10.Go to the Storage menu then Boot Order.Select UEFI Boot Sources and Press F5 to disable it, Validate F10.NOTE: Make sure the Legacy Boot Sources is Enabled and the ATAPI CD/DVD Drive is the first device listed.Go to the File menu then select Save Change and Exit.Insert the first HP Quick Restore CD.Enter the 4-digit code displayed on the screen then press Enter.
