Unit: ___Review Letter Keys___ Lesson: ___Keying our first one minute timed writing for formal assessment

Standard 4.0

The student will use input technology skills that adhere to ergonomic principles to develop acceptable speed and accuracy levels.

4.1 Manipulate the keyboard to key correct response patterns to increase speed.

4.2 Demonstrate increase in straight copy speed and control (Gateway English II Standards 1.0, and 2.0).

SPI: Keys a minimum of 45 NWAM on a 5-minute timed writing.

I. Objective(s):

1. Students will type a one minute timed writing passing with at least 20 gwam at this point and aim toward the SPI goal of 45 NWAM for a 5 min. timed writing.

2. From the preassessment at the beginning of the period to the post assessment at the end, every student will net gain one work per minute on typing speed while trying to keep accuracy.

II. Materials Needed: Microsoft Office 2010, Assignment sheet, Document Camera, Smartboard, Microtype Multimedia software

III. Set:

Warmup in Microtype Pro writing down GWAM on scrap paper.

IV. Lesson Presentations:

Review speed and accuracy and also look at Timed Writing rubrics.

Lesson 10 on pp. 21, 22 are to be keyed to build straight-copy speed and accuracy and enhance keying technique.

V. Practice:

Students will then race in a relay Typing match divided by rows for suckers.

V. Closure: Students will show their GWAM scores to the teacher for a ticket out the door.

Assessment:

Informal assessment on students keying lesson 10 as it will count toward a 20 lesson test grade.

VII. Assignments:

Lesson 10 on pp. 21, 22 are to be keyed to build straight-copy speed and accuracy and enhance keying technique.

VIII. Accommodations/Reteach:

1. Students who complete assignments early will play TypeRacer or Typershark to enhance speed.

2. Slower typers or those with IEPs will type the previous lessons until they catch up. I am assessing for speed now. Typing 20 words per minute is a D. The state goal is 45 GWAM which we are working for as a class average. [pic]
