Cyber Foundations IIGraphic Design ApplicationsPhotoshop Lesson 3: Additional Coloring Techniques and Applying FiltersIMPORTANT: Before you begin your lesson, have your picture taken with one of the digital cameras in the lab. Your teacher will download the image and make it available for your use in a later activity. In this lesson, you will learn about some additional coloring techniques that can be used in PhotoShop. Also, you will use different filtering techniques that can drastically change the way that an image looks. In this lesson you will use the following new tools: Rectangular Marquee Tool – This tool makes a rectangular selection (or a square if you press the Shift key). Brush Tool – This tool paints the current foreground color of an image creating soft strokes of color. Move Tool – This tool moves all items or selected items in a layer. Horizontal Type Tool – This tool allows you to add text horizontally on a page. (There is also a Vertical Type tool located under this tool.) Another Way to Color Only Certain Items in a Black & White Photograph:Open Adobe PhotoShop and open the Phone_Booth.jpg photo located in the Templates drive in PhotoShop Lessons/Lesson 3. Before you go on, you will crop the photo so that the phone booth on the left is not seen.Click on the Rectangular Marquee tool on the Tools Palette. (If the Rectangular Marquee tool is not visible on the Tools Palette, click and hold whatever marquee tool is currently visible to display all of the marquee tools.)Click and drag a box around the telephone booth and man on the right side of the image so that a marquee box (dancing ants) is drawn around this part of the image. Click the Image menu and select Crop. The photo will crop using the marquee that you drew. Press Ctrl and D on your keyboard to deselect the marquee. You will now select the phone booth. Click the Magic Wand tool on the Tools Palette. (If you don’t see it, click and hold the Quick Selection tool until you see the Magic Wand tool appear.)Click on any red part of the telephone booth to select.Notice that some of the telephone booth is selected but not all of it. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click on a part of the shaded red area in the door.You will still need to select more red areas. Click on the Select menu and choose Similar. More red areas will be selected in the image.There should still be some red areas that aren’t selected. To select these areas, press and hold the Shift key again and continue clicking red areas until you have as much of the red selected as possible.Now you will inverse the selection so that everything except the phone booth is select. Click on the Select menu and choose Inverse.Now you will change the selected part of the image to black and white. Click on the Image menu and choose Adjustments > Black & White…In the Black and White dialog box, click . Press Ctrl and D on your keyboard to deselect the selected parts of the image.Save this PhotoShop file as Phone_Booth_XX (where XX is your initials) with a PhotoShop .PSD file type in the PhotoShop folder on your H drive.“Water coloring” a Black & White Image:Open the Black&White.jpg photo located in the Templates drive in PhotoShop Lessons/Lesson 3.You will “color” this black and white photo.Click on the Brush tool on the Tools Palette. When you do this, notice that the Options Bar changes to give you options that are related to the Brush tool. Click on a color swatch in the Color Palette to begin coloring the lady’s dress in the picture.On the Options Bar, change the Opacity to 50% . This will make the color that you apply to the dress transparent so that you can see the natural texture of the dress in the photo through the color you are about to apply.With your mouse, start coloring the dress.You can change the width of the brush on the Options Bar or by right clicking the mouse and changing the diameter of the brush. You may need to zoom in to be precise.Color the entire dress area. When you have finished coloring the dress, choose another color from the color swatches to color the lady’s eyes.Zoom in and color her eyes. You definitely may have to change the diameter of the brush to do this accurately.Use the same method to change the colors of the jewelry. Click the File menu and select Save As… Save this file as Black&White_XX.PSD (where XX is your initials) in the PhotoShop folder on your H drive. Creative Use of Coloring Techniques & Filters:Andy Warhol was a famous artist who lived from 1928 – 1987. He was well known for his works that featured celebrities. He did many pieces of art similar to the one shown at the right where the same image was used repeatedly but featured many different colors and effects. We are going to use PhotoShop to create a piece of artwork using your photograh. Open the photo of yourself that your teacher has downloaded. She will tell you where it is located. Use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the area just around your face. Click the Image menu and choose Crop. Press Ctrl and D on the keyboard to deselect the marquee.You will change the image size so that four of these pictures will fit on a single paper page.Click the Image menu and select Image Size…In the Document Size section, change the Width of the image to 4 inches. When you change this value, make sure that the Height value does not exceed 5 inches. If it does, change the width value until the height value is less than 5. Click . The size of the image will change. You will now save this photo. Click the File menu and select Save As… Save this image as YourName.jpg in the PhotoShop folder on your H drive. You will now create a new document and place your image into it.Click the File menu and select New…In the New dialog box, change the unit of measure for the width from pixels to inches. Change the dimension to 8.5 for Width and 11 for Height (the size of a sheet of paper). Click . A new blank document will appear.Before you continue, you will change the color of this background layer. Click on the Paint Bucket tool on the Tools Palette. (If you can’t see it, click and hold the Gradient tool until you see the Paint Bucket.)Click on a color in the Swatch (Color) Palette. Click anywhere on the page to color the entire page. You will now add the image that you cropped and resized. Click the File menu and select Place… Navigate to the PhotoShop folder in your H drive and select the photograph of yourself. Click . The photograph will be placed in a new layer in the center of the page.Click the Move tool . The following dialog box will appear. Click . The sizing handles will be removed from the photo. Click and drag this photo to the top left portion of the page. Double click the YourName layer name in the Layers Palette and change the name of this layer to Top Left. You will now duplicate this layer.Click the Layer menu and select Duplicate Layer…Name the new layer Top Right and click . Click and drag the photo to the top right part of the page. Duplicate the Top Right layer and name it Bottom Right. Move the photo at the top right of the page to the bottom right. Duplicate the Bottom Right layer and name it Bottom Left. Move the photo at the bottom right of the page to the bottom left.In the Layers Palette, click on the Top Right layer to make it active. You will now experiment with filters to change the appearance of the photograph.Click the Filter menu and select Filter Gallery…When the Filter Gallery appears, click to open the different folders (Artistic, Brush Strokes, etc.) to see the different filters that can be applied to the photo. Experiment with the different filters to see the effect that they have with your photograph.Choose one of the filters that you like and click . The filter will be applied to the top left image on the page.Make the Top Right layer active in the Layers Palette. Click the Filter menu and select Filter Gallery…Choose another filter to apply to this photo. When you have selected one, click . Repeat this same process with the Bottom Left and Bottom Right layers so that each photo on the page has a filter applied. You will now add text to the layout. Click on the Horizontal Type tool on the Tools Palette. Click in the blank bottom area in the left corner of the page and type your name, ICT II, 2009. There is a palette that allows you to change the font or font style.Click the Window menu and select Character. You can experiment with different fonts, font sizes and styles here. When you have finished, click the File menu and select Save As… Save as Warhol_XX (where XX is your initials) in the PhotoShop folder on your H drive. You will now print this page.Click the File menu and select Print…In the Scaled Print Size area, check to .At the top, change the printer to the color printer. Click and then again. The following dialog box may appear:If it does, click and the page will print.Click the File menu and select Save.Exit PhotoShop. ................
