1. Double click on the Excel icon to run the program.

2. Enter Data:

3. Click on the “chart wizard” icon on the menu bar to select and make a graph.

4. For chart type, select column. By default, it is already selected.

5. Select the first graph (top left) in the chart sub-type.

6. Hit next.

7. Click the “Series” tab.

8. If the chart wizard window displays a graph, click on Remove button to remove all “Series”.

9. Press the “Add” button.

10. Hit the red arrow at the end of the “Name” field.

11. Select “Word-Color compatibility” from the worksheet, and hit the red arrow again which will take you back to the chart wizard window.

12. Hit the red arrow at the end of the “Name” field.

13. Select “Word-Color compatibility” from the worksheet, and hit the red arrow again which will take you back to the chart wizard window.

14. Hit the red arrow at the end of the “Values” field.

15. Select all the means from the bottom of the table, and hit the red arrow again, and return to chart wizard.

16. Hit the red arrow at the end of the Category X-axis Label” field and select axis labels (Control, Congruent and Incongruent) from the worksheet and hit the red arrow.again.

17. Hit next.

18. Under the “Title” tab, remove the chart title (Word-Color Compatibility).

19. Type “Word-Color Compatibility” in the Category (X) axis.

20. Type “Reaction Time (ms)” in Value (Y) axis.

21. Click on Gridlines tab, and remove check mark in Major gridlines.

22. Click on Legend tab and remove the check mar from Show legend, and hit next.

23. Hit finish and place your graph on the side of your data table.

24. Right click in the white margin of the graph and select “Format Chart Area”. And on the Pattern tab select “none”.

25. Right click on the gray area of the graph, and select “Format Plot Area”.

26. For Border select “automatic”, and for Area select “None”. This removes the gray region from the graph and puts a black border around the graph.

27. Adjust the size of the plot by clicking and dragging it.

28. Double click on the Y-axis numbers of the graph select Scale tab and enter 800 in the minimum range and 1400 in the maximum range with Major unit at 100. Select Font tab and change the font size to 10, then select the Number tab and reduce decimal places to zero (if it is more than zero).

29. Double click on the X-axis labels of the graph, and select Font tab and change the font size to 10. You will see that angular labels may straighten along the X-axis.

30. Double click on X-axis and Y-axis labels, select Font tab and adjust font size to 11.

31. Right click on any one bar, select Format Data Series. Select Patterns tab, and click on none in the Area menu.

32. Select the Y Error Bars tab, and click on “Both” for Display, and then click on Custom field.

33. Click on the red arrow of the + field and select the numbers for SE (Standard Error) click back the red arrow again and do the same with the –field selecting the same numbers representing SE.

34. Your graph should look like this. Click on the graph and then click on the view icon (an icon showing a piece of paper and a magnifying lens) on the menu bar to make it ready for printing.

35. Hit setup button on the menu bar, and select Page tab, click on Portrait orientation. Then select Chart tab and click on Scale to fit page option, click ok. You will see that the orientation of the page will change and the size of the graph will reduce to fit the page. Usually this will result in correct dimensions of the graph. Print your graph and check for dimensions.
