Visual Response Poem: Your Selected Artwork

Visual Response Poem: Your Selected Artwork

Write this poem in your composition notebook.

1. From art books, the Internet, etc., find a piece of art or photography that grabs you—one you feel you can write a poem about. If you find it online, it would be best to print it in color (which will cost .50 at school.) If it has a copyright watermark across it, that is okay for these purposes. If you are at the library, you may scan or photocopy your artwork. If you choose to scan it, you may check out the art book to take home or to scan it when you have more time. If you need a photocopy of your artwork, it will cost .10—keep in mind some art is bigger or shaped differently from the copy machine.

2. You may need to start with some brainstorming about your art. Make notes to yourself on its details. What more can you “see,” what more can you “say” to create your story poem.

3. Begin composing a poem to compliment this artwork. The title of your poem should be the artwork title and artist.

4. When you publish this poem in your portfolio, it should be accompanied by the artwork—so don’t lose it!
