The Council meets the first and third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the council chambers at 217 East Main Street. When the meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting is held on that Tuesday. All meetings are open to the public. If you wish to be on the agenda, contact City Hall by noon on the Wednesday prior to the meeting.
The City of Kelliher is serviced by a highly trained volunteer fire department. The department is equipped with the most current firefighting equipment and continues to upgrade as technology continues to advance. In addition to the fire department, Kelliher hosts an excellent first responder squad which consists of several community members. The first responder squad services the City of Kelliher and surrounding townships as well. Kelliher is located 45 minutes away from the nearest hospital and the first responders have been critical over the years in providing lifesaving services until the ambulance arrives. The Kelliher Fire & Rescue squad can be dispatched for an emergency by calling 911.

The City of Kelliher does not provide garbage collection services. Garbage service is only offered privately by Denny's Refuse Service, 25895 HWY 71 NE, Blackduck, MN 56601. They can be contacted 218-835-4682 for further information.
Recyclable material can be placed in the recycle bins located on the lot behind Kelliher City Hall. Items that are accepted include glass, plastic, aluminum, tin, cardboard and paper. The two barrels located in that area are for aluminum cans and all proceeds are donated to the Kelliher Days celebration.
The County also operates a transfer station site located 33003 Highway 72 NE, Blackduck, MN to accept household trash and other materials. The site is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and is closed Wednesday and holidays. The Waskish site is open 24/7 for household trash only. These sites are available to County residents only. Contact Magnuson Trucking & Leasing at 218-755-1440 to obtain more information. Any abuse or illegal dumping may result in the closing of the site.

Water and sanitary sewer are provided by the City – Kelliher Public Utilities. Residents receive monthly utility bills, which must be paid by the 1st of each month. For questions regarding utility bills or services, call the Kelliher City Administrator between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 218-647-8470. For after hours or weekend emergencies with regard to the utilities, call 218-647-8177.
The City needs to be notified promptly of any new customer, name change or address change information. A service access fee of $100.00 (water - $50, sewer - $50) will be charged to all new customers. In addition, there will be $25.00 service charge for service disconnection or reinstatement. All rental property utilities shall remain in the name of property owner per City Ordinance 801.06.

[pic] Building Permits [pic]
Building permits are NOT required for Signs, residential or commercial improvements. A Zoning Permit is required for new construction or if the outside parameter of your building is changing, or if you are putting up a fence. Contact the Kelliher City Hall for an application. Also, for any type of digging you plan to do on your property, you must notify Gopher State One at (800) 252-1166 at least two days in advance of when you plan to start your project. In addition to other construction projects, this is required for the planting of trees, shrubs, etc. Please be prepared to give Gopher State your address and the nearest intersecting street. They will take care of notifying all of the various utilities.

All dogs six months and older, kept or harbored in the City, must be licensed with a City license. The license fee is $10.00/year. A valid rabies vaccination certificate must be presented before a license can be issued. The earliest age to vaccinate for rabies is three months old. License renewals must be obtained at the Kelliher City Hall annually.

The polling place for City of Kelliher residents is located at 217 East Main Street in the Kelliher Fire Hall. To be eligible to vote, a person must be a U.S. Citizen, be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election, and a Minnesota resident for 20 days. Citizens are encouraged to register prior to Election Day. Information required for registration includes name, address, date of birth, address of previous registration, date and signature of applicant. Election Day registrants must provide one of the following proofs of residency; driver’s license, learner’s permit or identification card with current address, a witness, prior registration, student identification or a utility bill (gas, electricity, telephone, cable, solid waste, water or sewer) showing voter’s name and current address.

No vehicle shall be parked overnight in the Downtown Business District on any day. No vehicle shall be parked or allowed to stand for more than 24 hours on any of the public street or alleys in the City. Violations of these Parking Regulations will result in a penalty to the owner or operator of the vehicle parked in violation.

Kelliher Area Public Schools offer the residents of the Kelliher area the opportunity for life-long learning. From early childhood education through 12th grade and adult community education, the District meets the needs of young, emerging, and adult learners. All programs are housed on one campus located at Fourth Street in Kelliher. The District offers enhanced programming for public students in the area of art, computer technology, industrial technology, family and consumer science, Spanish, vocal and instrumental music, physical education, and counseling services.
The District serves about 230 students on the unified campus in Kelliher and also reaches out to the communities of Waskish, Saum, Shotley, and Shooks. District residents have shown their commitment and dedication to area schools through their continued support of District programs, through volunteer efforts, and through their participation in District wide activities.
Commitment, comprehensive programs, and cooperation make District 36 an excellent place to learn! In 2004 Kelliher Elementary earned five (5) stars in reading which is the highest ranking the state allows.
