Your NameProf. NameCOS #DateTitle of Your Essay Begin your introduction here. Notice that I have indented this first paragraph by five spaces, clicking the spacebar five times. You could also go to the top ruler bar, hover your cursor over the top "carrot" until you see the "First Line Indent" popup, then click and drag that carrot halfway between the first two hash marks on the ruler. Remember that your introduction should show the reader what your overall, general subject is (based on the assignment guidelines or instructions) and at the very least mention all the subtopics you will discuss below. Your body paragraphs should contain expanded information on the subtopics. Such expanded information should contain your discussion of the subtopic and references to sources. All you have to do with the pre-formatted sections above is replace what I've written with your appropriate information. And, of course, remove these paragraphs I've written here. Save this document under the title I gave it, "COS Essay Default", and every time you begin a new essay follow these steps: Open COS Essay Default. Immediately click on "Save As" (not "Save). Before saving, change the name of the document to something about your class (e.g. "COS111.E4"). Now write your paper and insert citations to any information from sources. Finally, create a Works Cited list of those sources' bibliographic information under the title of Works Cited I've already created on the last page of your document. (Note: Just keep typing after the title of your essay to write your essay; don't worry about flowing over to the WC page because I inserted a "page break", which means Works Cited will appear at the top of the last page, as a separate page, no matter how much you type before it.) Check out my other handouts on the COS page at as well as OWL at Purdue for any questions concerning citations and WC page entries. If you need more assistance, please email me.Works Cited ................
