Subject Area TEKS: 6.6, 6.13

Brief Description: Math students will use a template with geometric shapes to practice computer drawing skills.

LESSON PLAN:

1. Assign student seats.

2. Log in to the network.

3. Open the template: 6_Math_Draw_Orientation_Template located in Scommon/MS Tech Templates/6 Grade Folder

4. Save the document as Poly to student’s H-drive.

5. The teacher will demonstrate how to cut, copy, and paste using the polygons on the template.

6. Students right click and practice cut, copy, and paste.

Discuss keyboard shortcuts and practice:

Cut is Ctrl + X

Copy is Ctrl + C

Paste is Ctrl + V

Practice keyboard shortcuts.

7. Demonstrate use of the rectangle tool to draw a regular polygon. The students will then draw a polygon. Perfect circles and squares can be drawn using shift key.

8. Order: Right click object and choose Move to Back or Move to Front (objects are stacked on the page). Teacher will demonstrate, and students will practice.

9. Click AutoShapes in the drawing toolbar: Go to Basic Shapes. Draw a pentagon and a hexagon.

10. To format AutoShapes: Right click, and then fill with colors, line colors, line thickness.

11. To Flip: Click Draw at the bottom of the screen and choose Flip/Rotate

12. Students will save and log off.

Additional activities if time permits,

1. Add text: Right click, add text/center text (use for labeling)

2. Create an original drawing using at least 5 different shapes.
