COLLEGE APPLICATION

FORM

Brookdale Community College is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution. No person, in whatever relationship with the College, shall be subjected to discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, creed, color, nationality, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, marital status, civil union status, domestic partner status, affectional or sexual orientation, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, disability, or other protected categories or activity (i.e., opposition to prohibited discrimination or participation in the complaint process). Sexual harassment is a form of unlawful gender discrimination and, likewise, will not be tolerated. For complete information, go to brookdalecc.edu/about/equal-opportunity/

Below are instructions for completing an application for admission, along with some useful general information. If you have any questions about applying to Brookdale, please call 732-224-2944.

DEFINITIONS

1. Degree Student A degree student is a student who is enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree or certificate, either on a full- or part-time basis.

2. Non-Degree Student A non-degree student is a student who is not enrolled in a program of study leading to a degree or certificate.

3. Full-Time Study Full-time study is enrollment for 12 or more credits. Part-time study is enrollment for less than 12 credits for our 15 or 11-week terms.

4. Counselor/Advisor A Counselor/Advisor works primarily with degree students to assist them in selecting their courses, as well as with personal and career counseling.

5. Matriculation Matriculation means choosing a major and enrolling in a program leading to a certificate or degree. Degree students are matriculated; non-degree students are not matriculated.

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Application Please complete all questions on the application. Answer the question concerning program by listing the name of the program and the code from the "Academic Program Codes" list. A $25.00 non-refundable application fee is required (check or money order) and should be submitted with the application. Applications can be returned to the Admissions Office by mail, in person at the One Stop Center for Student Services, at our Regional Locations, or can be submitted online.

2. Course Information The College Catalog lists courses taught at Brookdale and their descriptions. The "Search for Classes" link lists the times and days for courses being offered each semester. This information can be obtained online on brookdalecc.edu

3. University Partnerships University Partnerships are agreements between Brookdale and three area institutions: Georgian Court University, New Jersey City University, and Rutgers University. Each university operates out of a designated Brookdale campus, offering university-level courses taught by university faculty. Students are able to complete an Associate degree at Brookdale and transfer seamlessly into a partner university, earning a Bachelor's or even a Master's degree without leaving Monmouth County. University Partnerships also offer dual admissions, course evaluations, transfer assistance, and other services to eligible students. Some programs even offer significant tuition discounts to Brookdale graduates.

DEGREE STUDENTS

1. Admission Contact your high school and have a copy of your high school transcript forwarded to the Brookdale Admissions Office. If you completed course work at any college, have official copies of your

APPLICATION FEE: $25 (non-refundable) If you previously applied to Brookdale Community College, you do not need to reapply. If you choose to reapply, your application fee will not be refunded.

transcript forwarded to the Brookdale Admissions Office. In addition to the application, all students under 30 years of age must complete the "Immunization Record Form" found online at brookdalecc.edu/admissions/forms

2. Testing All new degree students are required to take the preregistration testing battery before they may register. These tests are designed to help you and your Counselor/Advisor select your courses. The test results play no role in your admission to the College. Once your admission application is processed, you will receive notification of testing information and possible exemptions from testing.

3. Counseling After you have taken the Placement Test or are waived, you will need to meet with a Counselor/Advisor. Counseling and Advising sessions are available via walk-in sessions and group appointments. Please call 732-224-2555 for an appointment.

4. Course Load In the long terms (Fall and Spring), degree students may register for any number of credits up to a maximum of 16. In the short terms (Summer), the maximum credit load is 7 credits. Winterim's maximum credit load is 4 credits.

NON-DEGREE STUDENTS

1. Admission The Application for Admission form on the next page is required. If, at a later date, you wish to become a degree student, additional forms are required. Ask for information at the One Stop Center for Student Services or at one of our Regional Locations.

2. Testing Pre-registration tests are not required for most non-degree students unless they wish to register for Foundational Studies or English as a Second Language courses which require preregistration tests and the approval of a Counselor/Advisor or ESL Coordinator. All other courses are available without testing or approval of the Counselor/Advisor, provided the prerequisites are met. (Course prerequisites are shown in the Catalog. The student is responsible for ensuring they have fulfilled these requirements.)

3. Counseling Non-degree students who wish to meet with a Counselor/Advisor should contact the Counseling Office for information regarding walkin availability and group appointments.

4. Course Load Some non-degree students may register for a maximum of 11 credits. Credits may be taken over one long semester or several semesters. After 11 credits, non-degree students must contact the Admissions Office.
