Faculty Request for Approval to Teach Online/HybridWest Valley College is committed to high-quality online instruction that meets necessary federal, state and accreditation guidelines and utilizes best practices in online pedagogy and use of technology. To this end, it is critical that faculty who teach online are aware of and have been trained on these guidelines and best practices, including the importance of regular and substantive contact. This is reflected in ARTICLE 51 (Technology July 2014 – July 2017 ACE Contract)Faculty who agree to teach courses through distance education and who have not taught courses through distance education previously in the District must complete District provided training in teaching distance education courses. Such training shall be the equivalent of at least a one credit unit course. The appropriate Vice President will consider waiver requests where previous appropriate training has been received. The decision of the Vice President on whether to waive shall be final. Therefore, before a faculty is assigned an online course, the faculty member must either have taught an online course within the district prior to Spring 2015 (as evidenced by a contract from a semester prior to Spring 2015) or must submit this form and obtain approval to teach the online course.STEP 1: Faculty in coordination with the Department Chair, will complete the information below, along with the necessary documents requested.Faculty InformationName:Department:Email: Phone:Department Chair:CourseworkOption 1:Satisfactory completion (as evidenced by a Certificate of Achievement) of any of the following courses within the last five years is acceptable for the 1-unit training requirement to teach online.
