STUDENT AUTOBIOGRAPHIES

STUDENT AUTOBIOGRAPHIES

ASSIGNMENT: Write a two page autobiography that will help me get to know you as an individual.

WHY? The better I know my students, the better learning-environment I can create for them. In order to start this process, I need some basic information from you. This information is most easily obtained in the form of an autobiography.

WHAT WILL IT ACCOMPLISH? This assignment addresses two of the course goals. One goal is to improve students’ writing skills and this assignment provides a simple writing “warm-up.” The second goal is to increase students’ enthusiasm for learning science. Getting to know you better enables me to include topics or assignments that will elicit that enthusiasm.

Include answers to the following questions in your autobiography.

Who are you and where are you from?

What is your major and why did you choose it?

What are your post-college plans?

What are your special qualities?

What science experiences (classes, jobs, hobbies/interests) have you had?

Who encouraged or discouraged your interest in science?

What are your feelings about taking this chemistry course?

You are not limited to answering these questions. Please include any additional information about yourself that will help me get to know you better. Everything you write is kept confidential.

Be sure to include your name, local address, phone number and email address at the top of the page.

The assignment is due Friday, January 15 and is worth 20 points. You will get full credit if you answer all the questions, follow the two page limit, upload it to the course site on time, and use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
