Element Project Purpose and Requirements:

The purpose of this assignment is to create a product (e.g. a poster, a resume, a song or poem, a cube, etc.) which demonstrates your knowledge of a chemical element.

The product must contain the following information:

1. Who Am I?

Clearly state: the element name, symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, number of protons, neutrons and electrons, group and period number, and the name of the chemical family (if it has one)

2. Properties

Describes the element’s physical properties (state, colour, density, melting and boiling points) and what substances it reacts with.

3. History

Describe who discovered the element, when and where it was discovered, important details surrounding its discovery, and how the element got its name. If the element is so old that no one is sure when or by whom it was discovered, give details about its historical importance, and the age of artefacts that have been found.

4. Societal Connection

Describe current industry uses for the element, and how its properties make it suited for these uses. Identify the areas of the world is your element produced or found. Discuss any environmental concerns with its extraction and disposal. If there are none, explain why.

5. Presentation and Creativity

Project is visually pleasing, neat, and clearly legible. There are and no spelling or grammar errors. Materials are organized. The final product looks polished.

6. Reference list

Submit a list of the sources where you got information. These sources must be reliable, academic sources (i.e., no Wikipedia or Yahoo Answers). Cite these sources in APA format. Submit these to your teacher on a separate piece of paper. Attach the list to your project if it is possible.
