For this assignment worksheet, you will write a 3 to 5 page, double-spaced paper in which you refer to the developmental charts you compiled in lesson 2 and reflect on your students and their development. Specifically:

1. Explain what you think the following phrase means: "learning is developmental."

2. Examine the intellectual development of your students or the students you hope to teach. Where are they in Piaget’s stages? What characteristics place them in that stage? (You may wish to include some of the characteristics you charted in Lesson 2.) In your description, provide examples of assimilation, accommodation, disequilibrium, and prior knowledge.

3. Describe how Vygotsky's concepts of inner speech and the zone of proximal development apply to your teaching and students.

4. Explain, from an information processing point of view, how you would assess and help your students based on where they are developmentally. In describing how you would assess your students and promote their development, use the charts you developed in Lesson 2 as well as the charts on pages 209, 225, 246, 265 and 270-271 in your readings. In your description, provide examples of metacognition, schema, and scaffolding.
