Developmental Domain Teacher Guide
Instructional practices and decisions are influenced by human development in various stages of life. Teachers must adapt instruction in a school setting as children develop physically, cognitively, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. You must address these developmental changes in your creation of a developmental domain guide for teachers. The goal is to create a resource for teachers that organizes developmental milestones in an easy to read and easy to access format.
Choose one developmental age level from your Weeks 2 and 3 Learning Team Stages of Development assignment.
Develop a teacher guide for your chosen developmental age that offers normal milestones for your selected age group. Your guide must address the physical, cognitive, language, social, and emotional development of children for your chosen developmental age.
Create one of the following:
• A Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation or other presentation format with detailed speaker notes
• A chart or table created in Microsoft® Excel® or a similar chart maker resource that is clearly organized by developmental age and milestones. Include examples and explanations as necessary to further explain the milestones and implications in the classroom setting.
• A web page such as Google Sites
• A mind map, concept map, or diagram
Address the following questions in your developmental domain guide:
• Describing the stages of development for your selected age group, what should a teacher expect at each age in terms of physical, cognitive, intellectual, emotional, and social development?
• Considering the characteristics of normal development, what experiences or activities do children need to thrive in their classrooms for the age your Learning Team selected?
○ Use the text How the Brain Learns to provide teaching implications of brain research.
• Which theories of cognitive development will be applicable to your age group? Why? Include examples from the theories as necessary to further explain the developmental milestones.
• How should teachers address the stages of cognitive development in infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence?
• What components and theories of language development are applicable to your chosen age group? Why?
• How can teachers support the stages of language development?
• How can teachers address social and emotional development in your chosen age?
• How should teachers shape morality for this age group?
• How will teachers positively influence the development of moral reasoning and self-control in this age group?
• What are possible effects seen in the classroom of maltreatment or neglect during development.
• What are possible effects seen in the classroom of different learning disabilities including mental health and mental disorders.
Add a conclusion.
Note. Keep your guide clear and concise. Your goal is to create a resource that teachers can use frequently as they plan lessons and create their classroom environment. Include references at the end of your guide.
