Miami -- As part of CREW-Miami's (Commercial Real Estate Women) mission to support and advance the careers of women in commercial real estate, the professional association has launched the 2010 program of its annual "CREW Careers" initiative. The six-week mentoring program is designed to teach young women about the fundamentals of commercial real estate, a traditionally male-dominated industry, while helping them explore careers within the field and network with industry leaders. This will be CREW-Miami's sixth year hosting the program.

For the second year in a row, CREW-Miami is partnering with North Miami Beach Senior High School's female-only student organization, Girls Educated and Motivated for Success (GEMS). More than a dozen CREW-Miami members, specializing in professions ranging from real estate law to environmental engineering, have volunteered to teach weekly after-school sessions to the group of 25 girls. Topics span various issues relating to commercial real estate, such as investments, property management, architecture, banking, and construction, and general professional and social networking skills.

"The next generation of commercial real estate professionals will be entering one of the most challenging job markets in decades. As their future colleagues, CREW-Miami members are stepping up to help prime them for success by providing the tools and insight they need to navigate this complex industry." said Lori Schumacher, committee chair for CREW-Miami's CREW Careers program and partner at Bilzin Sumberg.

This year's CREW Careers program will culminate with a field trip to 1450 Brickell on April 14, the first of the three new Class A office buildings to deliver. This field trip will give students the opportunity to tour the site and take the lessons learned in the classroom and apply it to a real world setting.

"We designed CREW Careers as a pipeline program for young women," added Suzanne Amaducci-Adams, President of CREW-Miami and partner at Bilzin Sumberg. "In this regard, CREW Careers serves as a critical component of our organization's mission to increase the number of women leaders in the commercial real estate industry."

Upon completion of the program, the female students will put their networking skills to the test by attending CREW-Miami's April luncheon program, "Women at the Top." At the event, held on April 20th at noon at the Four Seasons Brickell, the girls will have a chance to interact with members of CREW-Miami and hear from a panel of female leaders about their path to personal and professional success. This year's panelists include Dr. Joyce Elam, Dean of the School of Business Administration at Florida International University; Maria Alonso, incoming chair of Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; and Ana Lopez Blazquez, Chief Strategic Officer of Baptist Hospital.
