Sisters in the Building Trades

Insert Date HereInsert Employer, or Council name hereI am writing to inform you of an event that is having a positive effect on tradeswomen, both in labor and in our industry, and asking for your finical support towards attendance. Tradeswomen are still at 2.5% of trades craft workers, a number that has not changed one full percentage point in over 30 years. The Women Build Nations Conference has become the single most effective tool to retain, recruit, educate, mentor and meet tradeswomen in North America, and the largest all crafts tradeswomen conference in the world. The 2017 Women Build Nations (WBN) conference returns to Chicago, October 13-15. The new location of the conference is in the heart of the city – near downtown Chicago at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place hotel near the lakefront and McCormick Place, the largest convention center in the country, a venue many women had a hand in building over the years. The primary goal of this conference is to offer women in the trades the skills, resources and support to thrive in construction industry careers through to retirement. I am requesting the support of the local to sponsor the attendanceof tradeswomen and men at the 2017 WBN conference. WBN 2017 is the seventh national conference; the event originated as Women Building California in 2002 and has grown from about 250 delegates to over 1,600 last year. Women Build Nations 2017 is once again co-sponsored by Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT) and the North America is Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and has the support of every International building trades union. More information about the conference, including the brochure and on-line registration will become available in mid-June. In 2016, the conference brought together union members, apprentices, journeywomen, women in leadership and women near retirement to network, share experiences, mentor and learn. Government officials, union leaders, apprenticeship coordinators and tradeswomen facilitate more than 40 workshops and plenary sessions. Attendees to this conference will build their leadership skills; increase their union identity and become involved in mentoring connections and support networks. The registration is $150 per person and includes several meals over the three-day event. The group rate at the Marriott Marquis Chicago hotel is $199.00 per night. Airfare to Chicago is $_______per person. $_____will provide (registration, accommodations and travel for ___# attendees.Respectfully,Insert Name Insert Trade and other titles here Insert phone number and or e-mail (so they can reach you) ................
