People:

Come Thou Fount

CCLI: 108389

I will make you as a light for the nations,

that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.

Collect for Purity (in unison)

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no

secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your

Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy

Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Law

Jesus said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul

and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it:

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the

Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40

Collect

O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: mercifully accept our prayers, and

because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without

you, grant us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please

you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you

and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

First Reading (all be seated)

Reader:

People:

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Genesis 45:3-11, 21-28

(Pew Bible p. 37)

The Gradual (all remain seated and read responsively)

Psalm 37:8-17

8

Do not fret yourself over the one who prospers, *

the one who succeeds in evil schemes.

9

Refrain from anger, leave rage alone; *

do not fret yourself; it leads only to evil.

10

For evildoers shall be cut off, *

but those who wait upon the Lord shall possess the land.

11

In a little while the wicked shall be no more; *

you shall search out their place, but they will not be there.

12

But the lowly shall possess the land; *

they will delight in abundance of peace.

13

The wicked plot against the righteous *

and gnash at them with their teeth.

14

The Lord laughs at the wicked, *

because he sees that their day will come.

15

The wicked draw their sword and bend their bow

to strike down the poor and needy, *

to slaughter those who are upright in their ways.

16

Their sword shall go through their own heart, *

and their bow shall be broken.

17

The little that the righteous has *

is better than great riches of the wicked.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the

beginning, is now, and will be forever: world without end. Amen.

Sermon (all be seated)

Nicene Creed (all stand, and recite in unison)

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],

who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People (all kneel)

The Deacon says:

Please offer your prayers and thanksgivings this morning, either out loud or silently, and

after the words ¡°Lord, in your mercy¡± respond with ¡°Hear our prayer¡±. Let us pray.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer:

Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ¡¯s sake, our only Mediator and

Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen.
