Electronic Provider Revalidation Enrollment Portal (ePREP) FAQ (for Residents)What is ePREP?ePREP is Maryland Medicaid’s new Electronic Provider Revalidation Enrollment Portal. For more information see for an overview or a YouTube video at What does this mean for me as a resident?As part of the Accountable Care Act, Maryland Medicaid is now requiring all ordering, referring, and prescribing providers to enroll in ePREP and obtain a Medicaid ID. Residents will enroll as a Prescribing Provider.Most importantly, prescriptions for Medicaid patients will be denied at the pharmacy if you do not have a Medicaid number. Until you complete the online application and receive a Medicaid number, please have your attending submit Medicaid prescriptions on your behalf.How long will my application take to be processed by ePREP?According to Medicaid it will take up to two weeks due to the current backlog. According to experience it could be two months or more. I entered my NPI and now see a screen that says Request to Join.This means your NPI is linked to another business profile. Please stop and contact Joanne Palughi jpalugh1@jhmi.edu with your name and NPI and she will help get this resolved. I entered my NPI and received an Incompatible NPI error.You will need to update the information on your NPI.To update your NPI Taxonomy Code in NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System) access through this link. (Taxonomy codes?are administrative?codes?set for identifying the provider type and area of specialization for health care providers – Department Taxonomy Code)You will be asked to enter your user name and your passwordIf you don’t have your NPI user ID and password on file, please call NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System) at 1-800-465-3203 and choose the option of “NPI Specialist” to request them. Please understand if you have to call NPPES, a temporary password, valid for only 24 hours, will be assigned to you.? Your user ID is permanent.You will be asked to provide only the following 4 personal pieces of information to confirm your identity before obtaining your user ID and temporary password:?NPI NumberDate of birthState where you were bornLast 4 digits of SSNSelect the drop down arrow next to Choose Taxonomy:Choose the 390200000X taxonomy code. Then go back and continue your ePREP enrollment.I entered my NPI and I received this message:This means you are already have a Maryland Medicaid Individual Number. You can confirmt this by clicking on the Accounts tab at the top of the page. Click on the Account ID hyperlink. All your information is listed, including your MA number.If you have a Medicaid number, please provide that number to your residency director.I forgot my NPI number, how can I retrieve it?Providers can look up forgotten NPI numbers at started the process and got a message I was already registered.If you see a message similar to the message below this indicates you are already registered and should be good to go. I do not have a DEA.Click No at that question and in the explanation box, indicate you use the institutional DEA.I have a DEA for another state.The advice of ePREP is to go ahead and enter that information even if you will continue to use the institutional DEA while prescribing at JHM.I have previously enrolled in Medicaid in another state. Do I still have to enroll in ePREP?Yes, Medicaid is a state by state program. If you have not previously enrolled in Maryland Medicaid, please complete this enrollment process. Tips for Completing ePREP EnrollmentWatch the circles on the left hand side. Half-filled circles or red empty means a required item has not been completed. Navigate back to the section and complete any missing information.When entering your correspondence address you will need the nine-digit zip code for the facilityJHH 21287-0005JHOC 21287-0006BMC 21224-2735If you receive an error message on the last screen, re-enter the information and click Continue again. For those enrolling for the first time, please send the number to your residency director when you receive it. ................
