Romeo and Juliet Song Presentation

Final Exam…warm up those voices!

You will be assigned one of the five acts from the Shakespearean play, a review of the author’s life, or a summary of the entire play.

• Your group will find a classical musical piece (whether the theme from a TV show, a patriotic song…or just a song that is so well known that even your English teacher recognizes the work).

• Study the format of the original song…because you will need to closely match its set up in your new, Shakespearean-related lyrics. For example, you will need to follow the rhythmical pattern as in the original song. Also, look at the chorus…make sure you follow a similar pattern. Is there a specific word or phrase that is repeatedly used in the original? Then you must use a repeated word or phrase in your new song lyrics.

• Rewrite the song using your new lyrics, which effectively summarize the assigned portion.

• Practice, practice, practice….and perform!

On the day of the performances, make sure you do the following to receive the highest grade possible. You may either show a video taping of the performance or present “live”

• Have a copy of the song lyrics for everyone in the class.

• Have the music playing while you sing (it well help you stay on key). Be careful, if the original song lyrics can be heard as you try to sing over it with your new lyrics…it will be very confusing. Can you find a copy of the music without the lyrics? That would help.

• you may bring your song in on a burned disc, flash drive, or use YouTube and play it through my computer as you present- if you bring the song on an IPod you must ALSO bring an IHome/IPod Player

• Feel free to add any special effects to add to your score: costumes, synchronized moves…live music…

• Make sure you are well -rehearsed. While you don’t have to have the song memorized, you’ll still need to have eye contact, energetic voices, and your total group participation.

Do you want to pre-record you performance and press play?

• You must bring your pre-recorded performance in on the day of the presentations in the form of a:

DVD disc, flash drive, or have the link ready to access your song presentation using Vimeo/YouTube . BRING BACK UPS as my computer does not always agree with your technology!

• Come to class prepared to perform live just in case your technology does not work!
