A rhetorical analysis describes and explains an essay writer's use of ethos (appeal through establishing credibility or authority), pathos (appeal to the reader’s emotions), and logos (appeal to reason).

In this essay, you will develop a THESIS, carefully analyzing the use of ethos, pathos and logos in the speech you have selected. You must select a speech from . You may not select  Dr. Martin Luther King's "Letter From Birmingham Jail" or Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech since these two speeches have been discussed in class.

In your analysis, you will also give numerous examples from the essay of the rhetorical appeals used. You will also explain the importance of each appeal to the argument.

In addition, you will incorporate at least three outside sources in your essay, using MLA format. You should not solely rely on the internet for outside sources. Use of printed material (books, magazines, newspapers…) is fundamental in writing meaningful analytical essays.
