I am a first-year student at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law, and I am writing to

express my interest in working for your firm as a summer law clerk. As a Boston native,

I plan to return home to work in the summer and following graduation. Your firm

particularly interests me because of your strong labor law practice.

My educational and work experiences coupled with strong research and writing skills will

enable me to perform well for your firm. As a business major in college, I took labor and

business law courses that provided me with a basic foundation in these areas. As an

assistant to a senior partner of a corporate human relations department, I prepared data

for three union negotiations. Additionally, my position as Chair of the Housing

Committee at Boston College presented me with the opportunity to develop my

organization and leadership skills. I successfully lobbied for and oversaw the

implementation of an ambitious proposal for co-ed apartments. The president of Boston

College praised my creative handling of the situation, and a survey of students following

implementation of the proposal revealed widespread satisfaction with the new system.

Similarly, my writing skills were recognized when I received an award from the Political

Science Department for producing the best senior thesis. I have continued to refine my

writing through my Legal Research & Writing class in law school.
