BTT Assignment: “Time For The Holidays

Calendar AssignmentLearning Target: “I can demonstrate my desktop publishing skills and basic design understanding by creating a calendar in MS Publisher.”As we have learned in class, Microsoft Publisher provides us with many templates that we can use to make a variety of publications. These publications serve a variety of different uses in the home, office and community environment. In this assignment you will be using the different functions that you have learned in Publisher to create a 12 month calendar for the 2016 year that can be given away as a gift (or even kept for yourself). Publisher provides many different templates for you to make a calendar, but remember that templates should only be used as a guideline. You are expected to make your calendar original and creative. The calendars will be completed and marked ready for the start of the holidays. Your calendar MUST include the following:For each month you must print a full-page (8 ?” x 11”) calendar that includes an image (picture, comics, quotes, etc…) to accompany each month. If you wanted a challenge you can do two separate pages, one with the calendar and a separate full-page (8 ?” x 11”) with an image (picture, comics, quotes, etc…). Your calendar needs to have a theme. In addition, your calendar must include an appropriate cover page that matches the theme apparent in the rest of your calendar. Also, the cover should have your name, who you are giving it to, and the year included. The pictures must be relevant to the recipient of your gift and must have an obvious theme or connection.Your calendar and your pictures must be bound using the coil binder. You will be provided with card stock for your front and back cover – the rest of the paper will be regular paper. You must have a back cover (this can include a sample of what each month’s page looks like; it can be future year’s dates, etc.) – HINT: to include samples of each months page, you’ll need to use the screen shot, and cropping features All of Ontario’s statutory holidays must be included (11 official). You can find a list of them at this website (make sure to take the 2016 dates) can add more “un-official” holidays (Valentine’s Day, etc…) to enhance your calendar (there are 15 in total). You should list a minimum of 3 of these on your calendar.5-10 important dates for your family/friends (i.e. family birthdays, holidays, vacation, etc…) must also be included - a minimum of 5 is requiredResources to be provided:2 sheets of card stock for the cover page and back cover.1 coil in order to bind your calendar together. To further enhance your calendar you can:Provide detailed captions for each of your pictures in your calendarProvide multiple images for each monthBring in pictures from home on a USB stick – rather than just trying to use the internet Have your calendar printed in colour (best option is to bring it to a print shop such as Staples) Play around with the picture formatting toolbarAny other creative ideas you can think ofThings to think about when getting started:Who is your calendar for? What is your theme going to be? (Think about the hobbies or interest of the person you are giving the calendar to)What design do you want to use in Publisher? (choose one that lets you add pictures)Which way will your calendar go – portrait or landscape?Where are you going to get your pictures from? How will you design your front cover? Your back cover? Will you print it in colour somewhere or print at the school in black and white? (This may have an impact on whether your pictures are grayscale or not)What birthdays or family dates do you need to gather for your calendar?
