Note: Detail may not add to total due to rounding. In all jobs, full time is 35 or more hours per week; part time is less than 35 hours. Among those who usually work full time, working part time for economic reasons consists mainly of persone citing "slack work," because there is insufficient demand for the employer's goods and services to support more work hours. Among those who usually working part time, the most often stated reason for working part time for economic reasons was "inability to find full time work." The number includes those who cite such a reason for working part time only if the person actually worked part time during the survey week. Data may not add due to rounding

NOTE: Hours and earnings data are based on reports of payrolls and the corresponding paid hours for all employees in California and its Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA). Hours and earnings are for private-sector employees. HOURS: Total hours during the pay period include all hours worked (including overtime hours), hours paid for standby or reporting time, and equivalent hours for which employees received pay directly from the employer for sick leave, holidays, vacations, and other leave. Average weekly hours are the total weekly hours divided by the employees paid for those hours.

EARNINGS: Average hourly earnings are on a "gross" basis. Average weekly earnings are derived by multiplying average weekly hours estimates by average hourly earnings estimates.
