About the Instructors:
Susan M. Dean
She is a registered Health Information Administrator and a Certified Coding Specialist in hospital and physician-based coding. Her medical background includes work in DRG management, as an insurance claim processor, work as an LPN in clinic, hospital and nursing home settings. She serves as a consultant for hospitals and physician offices for coding & billing audits and education. She works as an expert witness regarding medical/legal reviews. She has taught coding and billing in a Health Information Management Program and has conducted coding & billing conferences on a national basis since 1986.
Mike Nicholes, MSW, LCSW
Mike is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah in 1974. He has been employed at Saint Vincent Hospital since 1981 and is currently the Clinical Coordinator at Saint Vincent’s Behavioral Health Associates. Prior to working at Saint Vincent, Mike worked in Child Protective Services in Billings, and at Deaconess Hospital as a Medical Social Worker.
Mike provides care using an accepting, non-judgmental approach, employing a variety of tools and methods to help clients find solutions to their problems. He enjoys teaching, facilitating, and group interaction, and has given numerous presentations on a variety of topics.
Mike is married to Judy (41years) and they have two children and 6 grandchildren. He enjoys camping, golf, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
Joel Traywick
Joey as he is known by friends, has an extensive background and gifting in the performing arts. Joey is from the Southeast United States originally. He attended Louisiana State University-Monroe on a musical theatre scholarship. That path soon lead him to Los Angeles where he appeared in feature films such as the X-Files and television shows like Just Shoot Me and the Jamie Foxx Show. Joey also appeared in numerous national commercials.
Soon after meeting his future-wife in Hollywood, Joey left ”The Biz” to pursue a degree in Exercise Science in an effort to inspire people to be more active as well as serve those that suffer from chronic illness. Upon completion of his degree in 2003, Joey accepted a position in Billings, MT as the Athletic Director at a Billings health club. Within the year, he accepted a full time position as an Exercise Physiologist with the Billings Clinic Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit. After two years in that department Joey went back to school to pursue a nursing degree. Subsequently, he completed his LPN in December of 2008 with a high honors distinction.
Currently, Joey has discovered a passion for affecting change on a systemic scale in the Organizational Development department at Billings Clinic. It is here that his talents and charisma as a performer marry perfectly with his clinical knowledge and desire to improve things for the better.
Joseph C. Apostol, MD
Dr. Apostol graduated with a combined BA/MD degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Six-Year School of Medicine. He did his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Apostol trained at three programs for cardiology fellowship; Georgetown University for clinical cardiology, Scripps Clinic and the Scripps Research Institute for cardiovascular research, and the Indiana Heart Institute for interventional cardiology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
Kimberly Anderwood Hoy, JD, CPC
As a hospital compliance officer, Kimberly regularly provides research and guidance on coding, billing and reimbursement issues for a wide-range of hospital services
Kimberly earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Montana School of Law, where she received the Corpus Juris Secundum Award for Excellence in Contracts. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Yale University.
