The Knowledge Inventory Tool (KIT) is a special type of feature available for assignment within the Elsevier Performance Manager (EPM). Your administrator will assign you a KIT to complete or they may set up modules for self enrollment containing the KITs. When you have been assigned a KIT you would access the KIT on your “My E-Learning Lessons” page.

Although KITs are assigned to you just like other EPM lessons, KITs are not actually lessons. The Knowledge Inventory Tool is an application containing a self-paced exam. This application has the ability to assign appropriate lessons based upon incorrect answers to improve your skill. KITs without lesson assignments are the same exam application; however, they do assign lessons.

A KIT presents the questions one per page and allows you to navigate between the questions. Once you click the [Complete] button, the KIT scores the exam. If you are assigned a KIT with lesson assignment, then the KIT will assign the appropriate lessons based upon your incorrect responses.

Knowledge Inventory Tools, like other e-learning lessons, are assigned to you by a module. There are two types of KITs available for each product type. Please contact your training administrator if you have questions regarding KIT accessibility. The following are the current KIT products available to be licensed by your facility:

• EduCode KIT: Inpatient Coder's Knowledge Inventory Tool with Lesson Assignment

• EduCode KIT: Inpatient Coder's Knowledge Inventory Tool without Lesson Assignment

• EduCode KIT: Outpatient Coder's Knowledge Inventory Tool with Lesson Assignment

• EduCode KIT: Outpatient Coder's Knowledge Inventory Tool without Lesson Assignment

• Medicare Billing Knowledge Inventory Tool (KIT) with Lesson Assignment

• Medicare Billing Knowledge Inventory Tool (KIT) without Lesson Assignment

[pic]Note: The lessons that may be assigned by a KIT, may not be visible on your "My E-Learning Lessons" page until after you have completed the KIT exam.

When you access a KIT the initial screen will look a little different than other EPM lessons. For example, you will be presented with a KIT overview page when you access the KIT for the first time. This overview page will provide you with the following information:

• The number of questions contained in the exam.

• Estimated time it takes to complete the exam.

• A list of reference material you will need to complete the exam. e.g., CPT coding manual, ICD-9-CM coding manual or calculator.

• A brief description of the subject area the exam questions pertain.

• Instructions about how to start the exam.

[pic] Note: Once the KIT has been completed, you can return to see your detailed results by clicking on the title of the KIT within your lesson plan.[pic]
