It’s hard to believe we have reached the end of Unit 1 already! We have had a busy and very successful start to the school year.

Report Card

The unit 1 report card for the courses your son or daughter had from September 21st to October 31st is enclosed. The report shows a separate page for each class. Students in grades 8, 9, and 10 will have a total of six report pages: Math, Science or Humanities, PE, Visual Arts, French, Health & Career Ed or Planning 10. Students in grade 11 and 12 will have five to seven pages depending on their course load. Please sign and date the envelope to indicate you have seen your son’s or daughter’s report card, and ask your son or daughter to return the envelope to Mr. Wakelin.

Parent Meetings

If you have any questions or concerns about your son or daughter’s progress, at any time during the school year, please phone the school at 604 588 6934 and leave a message for any of the Inter-A teachers. We will be happy to schedule a meeting time with you and your son/daughter to discuss his/her progress.

Fundraising

The Inter-A Student’s Society, run by our parent volunteers, has recently organized two fundraisers to support the program. This year, our main goal is to fundraise for our annual retreat which will be held in a new location next year, RockRidge Canyon!

Information and the order forms were sent home with your child last week. If you would like additional order forms, please contact Mr. Jay or refer to the Inter-A website (under the ‘News’ tab): inter-a.ca

The first is a Gift Card purchase fundraiser. The gift cards are available for a wide variety of merchants and services. The orders and payment (cheques made payable to the Inter-A Student’s Society) need to be returned to school by November 13th.

The second is a Purdy’s Chocolates fundraiser. These are always popular treats. Please return one order form and one cheque for all orders, made payable to the Inter-A Student’s Society by November 13th. This year, there is also the option to order online. If you choose to do this, please ensure that you register under the customer number 12867 and join the Inter-A group.

The gift cards and chocolates will be available for pick up on Tuesday, November 25th at 2:30pm

In School Retreat

Our senior students planned an In School Retreat that took place on October 16th. Students participated in ice breakers, co-operative games, a talent show, craft time, and a skit night. It was a great day to build community within the Inter-A Program. Thank you to all student leaders that helped plan the retreat and to the Inter-A Student Society for sponsoring our pizza meal.

Clayton Heights Haunted House

A group of students have organized a set of volunteers to take on various roles in a community haunted house on October 31st. The haunted house proprietors are excited, and appreciative. Proceeds from this event will go to help support Children’s Hospital.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Inter-A Students were front and center again for Kwantlen Park’s Remembrance Day Assembly. Elizabeth, Olivia, and Ryan were the masters of ceremony for the assembly while Jasmin and Tiffany sang and played the guitar.

Field Trips

A group of our photography students recently took half a day to explore Coal Harbor. They were able to take some unique photographs which were used for their portfolio presentations.

Holiday Craft Afternoon

This year, our annual Holiday Craft Afternoon will take place in December 17th, 2014. If you are available to help lead a craft or supervise a student lead craft please contact an Inter-A teacher at the school phone number.

Late Work

The Inter-A program strives to promote a sense of accountability, responsibility and personal organization. One of the ways that students can demonstrate these qualities is by submitting their work in a timely manner. In order to facilitate the learning of accountability and organization, as well as providing timely feedback, Inter-A teachers expect that all work is handed in on the due date and we hope that parents will support us in this expectation. If a student is away for a test, we ask that parents support student accountability by providing us with a doctor’s note so that the student may make up the test at the earliest convenient time.

We recognize that there may be one or two exceptional situations where a student has difficulty in meeting a deadline. In these situations, we encourage the student to speak to the appropriate teacher(s) as soon as possible.
