FSAB works to create experiences for students that build community and cultivate relationships between diverse groups of students though meaningful service trips. A successful FSAB adventure consists of meaningful service and learning. FSAB values diversity, developing new relationships, personal growth, reflection, and a lifelong commitment to service. As the Student Coordinator, you should anticipate dedicating at least 8 hours per week to Florida State Alternative Breaks. This weekly commitment may increase depending on your particular responsibilities. Responsibilities of Student Coordinator include: Working closely with leadership team members to provide overall direction and vision for the programServing as the liaison between student leadership and professional staffAttending weekly one-on-one meetings with the graduate assistant for FSABLeading weekly meetings with the staff members and the planning committeeHaving familiarity with the budget and budget planningWhat are the responsibilities of Planning Committee?The Planning Committee is the foundation of Florida State Alternative Breaks. They are critical in the development of the program and work together to support each other, site leaders, and participants. No committee role is more significant than another; members work together as a cohesive unit to provide high quality service experiences for participants. Members will be expected to dedicate at least 5 hours per week to Florida State Alternative Breaks.Issue Education DevelopmentOversee issue education developmentProvide trip leaders with resources and ideas for pre-trip social issue educationProvide a preliminary educational packet for site leadersOffer suggestions for pre-trip service for site leadersHelp site leaders with the continuation of education until the tripAn ideal candidate will have a strong interest in gathering information on a variety of topics, and displaying it in a way that is interactive, fun, and descriptiveSite Leader DevelopmentOversee all site leaders, including planning the fall site leader retreat Work throughout the fall and spring to develop and prepare site leaders capacity to lead trips through weekly site leader meetingsOrganize and advise site leaders about effective pre-trip meetingsEnsure that all participant paperwork is completedWork closely with the staff to develop site leaders’ skills, follow trip liability protocol, and adhere to the University’s travel policies. An ideal candidate will be detail oriented and work well managing multiple tasks at a timeMarketing and RecruitmentOversee marketing and recruitment Establish a recruitment plan and coordinate promotion efforts, including designing FSAB t-shirtWork closely with the Center for Leadership and Civic Education’s coordinator of marketingExpand on-campus marketing through the use of social media, website, and other outlets.Plan end of year banquetAn ideal candidate will have an interest in marketing strategies, including effective use of social media and campus wide recruitment strategies.Spring Break Site DevelopmentOrganizes all spring break site development, including service agencies and housingMaintain close communication with all service sitesWork with weekend site leaders to coordinate trip logisticsPlan between 6-10 alternative spring break tripsWork closely with student coordinator and program staff on budgetingIdeal candidate will have a strong interest in details and logistics planningWeekend and Summer Site DevelopmentOrganizes all weekend and summer site development, including service agency and housingMaintain close communication with all weekend and summer sitesIdentify and work with site leaders to coordinate trip logisticsPlan between 5-7 weekend and summer tripsIdeal candidate will have a strong interest in details and logistics planningImportant Dates and CommitmentsThe following are important events to ensure quality preparation for the upcoming year with Florida State Alternative Breaks. ___2012-2013 Coordinator and Planning Committee Applications Due: Tues, April 10, 5 pmA hard copy must be submitted to the front desk of the Center for Leadership and Civic Education in the Dunlap Student Success Center. No emailed or faxed applications will be accepted.___2012-2013 Coordinator and Committee Interviews: Wed, April 11 and Thurs, April 12Interviews will take place on Wednesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 12. Sign up for an interview time when you submit your completed application. Interviews will last approximately 20 minutes and will be conducted at the Center for Leadership and Civic Education.___2012-2013 New Coordinator and Committee Meeting: Sun, April 15 from 1:30-3:30The new Student Coordinator and planning committee will have a retreat with the Alternative Breaks staff. During this retreat the FSAB team will become familiar with their roles and each other. The retreat will be conducted at the Center for Leadership and Civic Education.___2012-2013 New and Old Committee Meeting: Monday, April 16 from 7:00-8:00 pmThe new student leadership will meet with the outgoing student leadership. During this retreat the FSAB team will have the opportunity to learn from previous student leaders in the organization.
