Writing Ideas

1. Celebrate Writing Day

2. Participate in a Young Writers and/or Illustrators Event

3. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by rewriting and illustrating a favorite Seuss book (or do this with any favorite author).

4. Celebrate Local Authors – local author can visit and work with students, write letters to a favorite author, etc.

5. Story Starter Day

6. Write something about your school, and read the articles to someone – parent volunteer, over the intercom, etc.

7. Write about your favorite teacher(s)

8. Choose a favorite book such as If I Was In Charge of The World and change it (could do this to any favorite book)

9. Drop Everything and Write – designate a time for the entire student body, students and faculty, to write – calculate the total minutes spent writing

10. Write in response to any type of literature – have each grade level choose a different type or have the entire school respond to the same type and compare

11. Writer’s Club

12. Writer’s Board in Hallway – students submit various types of writing for display

13. Poetry Club

14. Poetry Board in the Hallway – have students submit poetry to display

15. Plan and implement a genre study

16. Brainstorm reasons why people write

17. Conduct a Writing Contest – could be any form

18. Daily Journal Writing

19. Daily Bell ringer writing activity

20. Write a letter persuasive letter

21. Write a book report

22. Create a school newspaper with students submitting the articles (This would go along with Newspapers in education.)

23. Write a story to correspond with the holidays

24. Write an art inspired poem

25. Create a nature journal.
