Not allowing illegal immigrants legal work requires them to do anything to survive in this country because they do not want to end up back in their foreign countries or were too young to even remember their birthplace. The inability to legally find work would force illegal immigrants to provide stolen social security numbers to employers. According to Ronald w. Mortensen,” Approximately 75 percent of working-age illegal aliens use fraudulent Social Security cards to obtain employment.”They also do not pay taxes because they are paid “under the counter.” Young illegal immigrants often cannot afford to pay money to get a stolen social security number, so they turn to a life of crime like joining a gang or selling drugs. The government needs to create a system which allows illegal immigrants to get work legally unless they are criminals.Overview/BackgroundObama's proposal is to move into a phase of mandatory use of E-Verify after a couple years of not enforcing it, employers with over 1000 employees would be required to join first, then add more and more employees in the next years. Only some small businesses would not have to use the E-Verify system. In cases where job applicants can’t be verified they will still be allowed to work until they verify their official status. If passed, a focus would be on “revising and expanding anti-discrimination provisions of immigration laws.” Another thing that would be changed would be cracking down on people who knowingly hire undocumented workers. The policy states it would “Improve administration and coordination between the Social Security Administration (SSA) and DHS, the two federal agencies managing the E-Verify system.” It would also raise the punishment for giving a false social security. To be fair they would provide a safe ground if the E-verify would mess up. Obama’s current policy doesn’t state a way for illegal undocumented workers to legally get work it became that way after the Immigration Act of 1924 was passed and it made it so a total of two percent of a country could immigrate per year. Then the Immigration Act of 1965 made changes to this policy “ replacing it with a preference system that focused on immigrants' skills and family relationships with citizens or U.S. residents. Numerical restrictions on visas were set at 170,000 per year, with a per-country-of-origin quota, not including immediate relatives of U.S. citizens or "special immigrants" (including those born in "independent" nations in the Western Hemisphere, former citizens, ministers, and employees of the U.S. government abroad).” The Immigration Act of 1965 made it so that people who have no use to the country like laborers and farmers could not get into the country.A major need for change is a way for illegal immigrants to obtain a temporary work document which would need to be filled out every three months. The reason why a temporary work document would be fair to the illegal immigrants because it would help stop the employers that take advantage of the illegal immigrants. According to The Guardian many undocumented workers are untreated all they are told is to thank the employers for giving them the opportunity. According to research on undocumented workers by Harold Meyerson, the way some employers take advantage of the illegal immigrants is they keep them in dreadful working conditions with low wages and long hours. When an illegal immigrant fills out the temporary work document they will be placed into the E-verify system so employers can check if the illegal immigrant is allowed to work. It may be possible to get the illegal immigrants documents from their country of origin to check if they have committed crimes in the past. A misdemeanor crime will not get the illegal immigrant restricted from obtaining a temporary work document, but a felony will get the illegal immigrant restricted from obtaining a temporary work document and deported back to their country of origin. Proposed Policy and AnalysisIn the proposed policy legal immigrants are offered a way to gain legal work without being legal citizens. Also the policy states that illegal immigrants that have temporary work documents will be put into the E-verity system. The potential consequences are that some American citizen that can’t get work are going to be mad that illegal immigrants are coming in and taking their work legally. Another potential problem is that it will take a long time for America to get the illegal immigrant documents from their country of origin to check if they had a criminal record. Conclusion In the United States of America lot’s of illegal immigrants can't get any legal work. Therefore, it is not easy for them to make a living in the United States of America and they don’t want to go back to their country because of bad economic system and corruption. They want to work to survive in the United States of America and provide for their families in those countries and prove themselves. Because they can’t find work legally and they are forcing illegal immigrants that provide them with stolen social security numbers to the employers. There are many illegal immigrants around the percentages of 75% of working age immigrants to provide stolen social security numbers to employers. So many illegal aliens do not pay any taxes because they get paid in cash or in other words “under the counter”. Many of the young illegal undocumented immigrants can't afford to pay for the social security number they start to get involved with criminal gangs and activities and drug smuggling. The government needs to create a system where which allows illegal immigrants to get work legally unless they are a former criminal and involved with any bad criminal felonies. ................
