God carefully made her and gave her to us to care for

and be good stewards of her bounty.

Pen Point Returning to Church?

Via Laura Here's what we have been doing to keep everyone safe:

?Masks/face-coverings are to be worn from the moment you enter the building until you walk out the doors. This excludes the very brief moment you receive the Eucharist. We have free paper masks available at the entrances. I have a list of rebuttals

to anti-masks arguments in my office that diplomacy won't let me publish.

?Windows in the Sanctuary will be open -- even on cold days. If the crowd gets large, we even pop open the doors for some sweet air flow. The birds sing with us!

?Hand Sanitizer is available in multiple locations and free to use at any time.

?Try with all your might to refrain from hugging and shaking hands. Elbow and hip bumps are delightful alternatives. If someone comes up to you and tries to surprise you with a greeting of touching and you are highly uncomfortable with that, it isn't rude to say no or nope. I prefer the jump back method and really wish I could do handsprings.

?Ushers will seat you so there is no worry about maintaining social distance when sitting. The only issue we have is that the vast majority of us

have hearing issues, and we are used to lip reading, so we all lean in and skooch closer to talk to each other. But the chatter that happens pre-liturgy is a beautiful sound -- it's that moment when we reconnect and ready ourselves to worship as one body in/of Christ. It's one of the most calming sounds.

?Households or quarantine-teams will be seated together with 3 to 4 seats (This equals the 6 ft Social Distance) separating you from other households. The staff regularly lays on the floor in church with tape measures to make sure the rows stay 6 ft apart. I am 5'2" and when I raise my arms over my head, it's a little over 6 ft. So each row is a me apart but we really used a measuring tape.

?We will continue to sanitize the church after each use. We spray our chairs every 41 days with a safe sanitizing solution that depletes viruses and bacteria. We wipe down all surfaces after each use of the church. We were told we didn't have to, but you know how we are with listening -- hold on let me skooch closer.

We thank you all for helping us keep our community safe. You have been our first

line of defense and have made it so much easier to perform these extra efforts.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Laura

Everyday Stewardship

Recognize God In Your Ordinary Moments

How to Fail Your Way to Heaven

-- Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

You know what are some of my favorite moments in Scripture? The little "Easter eggs" of Jesus' humanity, things like Jesus falling asleep, Jesus drawing in the sand, Jesus playing with kids. And how about Jesus rising from the dead, appearing to his disciples and saying, "So, have you got anything to eat?"

It's right for us to always keep in mind that Jesus is God. But we also have to remember that he was man. He got hungry. He cried when he felt sad and laughed when he felt happy. He got tired. He got bored.

Because he was God, none of those feelings ever led him into sin, like they do us. He never spent a car ride trying to pass the hours by seeing how annoyed he could make his older sister. He never smacked Peter over the head for saying something really stupid. But he did unleash some Biblically righteous anger on those traders in the temple, didn't he? And he wasn't shy about calling Peter "a Satan" when his friend tempted him to take the easy way out.

It's the tightrope walk we all try to balance every day, honoring our human emotions while still answering God's call to be better. Being perfect isn't the domain of the Christian -- that's the domain of Christ only. Trying and failing, then trying again (and failing again) and again and again? That's the domain of the Christian.

First Reading:

In publicly bearing witness to Jesus' resurrection, Peter urged the people to repent of their sin of ignorance and their denial of Jesus. How does Jesus' resurrection from the dead inspire you to repentance?

Second Reading:

John teaches his community that the key to avoiding sin is to follow Jesus' commandments. What do you find challenging in this seemingly simple and clear instruction?

Gospel:

Luke tells us that the resurrected Jesus opened the minds of the disciples "to understand the Scriptures" and see how his suffering, death, and resurrection was connected to repentance and forgiveness of sins. What tools do you use to better understand our faith?

Distribution of Communion during the pandemic will be as follows:

If wearing gloves, remove them at your seat before processing up.

Maintain a 6 ft. distance between people at all times. When you arrive at the front of the line, safely move your mask down or remove the elastic from one ear to expose your mouth.

The reverence and the verbal exchange should take place 6' away from the Eucharistic minister. The minister will offer you the Eucharist with "The Body of Christ", you will reply "Amen", THEN step forward to receive.

While you have the option of receiving the host on your tongue, we are requesting you forgo this and receive by hand. When you do receive by hand, you must do so without gloves on and without touching the minister or the minister touching you.

After receiving, carefully put your mask back on and return to your seat. If you have personal hand-sanitizer, we suggest using it as soon as you sit down.

Those requiring gluten-free hosts, please see the Sacristan prior to liturgy.

The distribution of the Precious Blood will be suspended at this time.

LIVE THE LITURGY When the greeting "Peace be with you" is sincerely offered to a person, it can resonate very deep within, bringing comfort and reassurance. When someone possesses the power to bring peace, it brings us to a place of safety and fills us with joy. The resurrected Christ has this power. God can open our minds so that we can more fully understand the meaning of Sacred Scripture and God's compassionate, loving, tender, and untiring embrace constantly present and offered to people throughout history. Without the anchor of truth that only God can provide, we can easily become startled and terrified at the sight of what life brings us. Being open to God's offer of peace, we can turn away from old habits and short-sighted vision and experience the gladness and joy of God's gift. Only then can what is wounded and broken be mended and reconciliation achieved. We are the resurrection witnesses called to proclaim the Good News. ?LPi

Confirmation Candidates

Our 8th and 9th grade Confirmation Candidates were very creative in selecting a service project that they and their sponsors could do together during this pandemic. We are very proud of all the work they did in completing this part of their Confirmation preparation.

These are some of the service projects they accomplished:

Wrote letters to the homebound, Did recycling at their school, Collected supplies and helped out

our St. Vincent DePaul Pantry, Cut up plastic grocery bags

to make mats for the homeless in Detroit, Made blankets for sheltered and abused animals, Earned and collected money for donations

to the Humane Society and Leukemia Foundation, Donated clothing to Good Will and the Macomb Foster Closet, Sent cards to hospitalized children, Donated goods and baked for MCREST Picked up litter around their neighborhood.

These young people continue to live out the message of the gospel and we at St. Louis are very proud of them. Please continue to pray for these students as they await their Confirmation on June 7th.
