Neuroendocrine Tumors, and Undifferentiated Neoplasms.

Cytological evaluation (as well as all other services) is available for specimens of human origin as well as of veterinary origin.

Collection of specimens from clients follows the same method as with other pathologic specimens.

The cytology program at L.E.M-Laboratories is patient focused and service driven to provide the highest quality service to the clinician.

Gynecological Cytopathology

We accept all gynecological-related specimens such as cervical and endometrial specimen.

Real-time correlations between a patient's prior abnormal Pap smear read at L.E.M-Laboratories and her current cervical biopsy aids our clients in providing quality care for their patients.

Advances in technology are changing the way in which cytopathology and Pap smear screening are practiced. At L.E.M -Laboratories, we closely monitor new developments in technology. We focus our attention on the products and services that improve quality and bring value to our clients and patients.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. The Papanicolaou (Pap) smear test has been used to screen for pre-cancerous lesions in asymptomatic women for the past 50 years.

The Pap test - the generic term for the type of test developed by Dr'. George Papanicolaou, used to screen for signs of cervical cancer.

L.E.M-Laboratories offer the Thin-Prep liquid-based cytology service. This is especially valuable for gynecological samples, as other ancillary investigations, such as HPV sub-typing.

The Pap (or cervical) smear:

a: the conventional method for Pap testing that involves smearing a portion of a woman's cervical cell sample onto a glass slide.

b: The liquid based Thin Prep Pap Test - Hailed as a revolutionary development in cervical cancer screening, clinical studies have proven that the Thin Prep Pap Test is far more effective in the early detection of precancerous cells. It involves a different process whereby virtually the entire cervical cell sample is rinsed into a vial, hence the same samples can then be re-used to screen for HPV.

Thin Prep:

Consultation and second opinion services are available by our senior pathologists.

We often receive slides from other laboratories, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, biologically oriented academic institutions, biotechnology companies, independent clinicians, dentists and veterinarians from Israel as well as from abroad.

Raw pathological material may arrive from these sources for re-processing and examination in order to give a second opinion diagnosis.

Our pathologists, with outstanding reputations for their professional diagnostic skills, are available to provide advice in the following areas:

• Gynecology

• Kidney Pathology

• Lymph Node Hematopathology

• Pediatric

• Orthopedic

• General Surgical Pathology

• Pulmonary

• Cytology

• Veterinary Pathology

• Deontology Pathology

• Dermatology

• Gastrointestinal

• Genitourinary

Our research projects team can provide advice regarding any laboratory related aspects of their studies.

Guidelines for Specimen Preparation

Specimen Handling For Routine Submissions:

Totally immerse immediately each specimen in a tightly secured container with 10% neutral buffered formalin

Use a separate container for each specimen

Do not crush the specimen with forceps, hemostats, or other instruments. Cautery will cause heat artifact.

DO not freeze the specimens.

Do not force a large specimen into a small container. Formalin volume to specimen ratio should be 10:1.

Label each container (not the lid) with patient's name and source of specimen. Complete a Histopathology test requisition and send with specimen.

Each container and specimen must be separately identified on the test requisition.

The test requisition should contain patient's date of birth, sex, clinical information and anatomic source of tissue.

We can accept wet specimens, paraffin blocks or pre-prepared slides. All samples are organized and accurately logged and tracked by trained professionals, ensuring integrity of the process. All pre-prepared blocks and slides are returned and residual wet tissue can also be returned if required.

Specimen Handling For Immunohistochemistry (IHC):

IMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL

Submit formalin fixed paraffin embedded blocks/4m sections on coated glass slides. Preferably submit one routinely stained H & E section of the block with appropriate clinical history and copy of Histopathology report

Alternatively submit specimens as for Routine Histopathology

Unstained FNA smears are also acceptable. Submit 2 smears for each marker requested.
