1. To be considered, all applications must include the following:

a. One (1) Application Form. Scholarships and criteria are listed on the back side of this document. Students should specify which scholarship(s) they are applying for by checking the box next to the scholarship(s).

b. Letter of Application. One (1) letter is required. This letter will include your reasons for applying for KSS scholarships and why you feel qualified to be a recipient. Please keep to a maximum of 1 typed page.

c. Current Resume.

d. Recommendations. Two (2) letters of recommendation are required. Both letters must be written by faculty members within the Department of Kinesiology & Sports Studies. The Recommendation Form can be downloaded from the KSS Scholarship website. Recommendations are to be turned in to the KSS Office by the faculty members on or before the deadline.

2. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.

3. Students who are awarded scholarships will be notified by Friday, April 13, 2018.

4. Recipients will be invited and honored at the Kinesiology & Sports Studies Awards Day on Friday, April 20, 2018.

⇨ Larry Ankenbrand Scholarship: Junior, senior, or graduate student status; full-time student; Kinesiology & Sports Studies major; minimum GPA of 3.0.

⇨ Shannon McNamara Outstanding Physical Education Major Award: Outstanding character; high scholarship; active in Kinesiology & Sports Studies department through departmental service and a member of the KSS Club; potential to be an outstanding role model in physical education; must be a Kinesiology & Sports Studies major.

K-12 Teacher Certification Students ONLY:

⇨ Mike & Phoebe Church Scholarship: Junior status; must have been enrolled at EIU for a minimum of 4 semesters when receiving this award; must be enrolled in the Kinesiology & Sports Studies Teacher Certification option and have plans to teach Physical Education in the public schools upon graduation; active in one or more departmental service activities (KSS Club, KSS Honors Club, Recreational Sports, volunteer work, etc.); overall GPA of at least 3.25/4.0; must be considered to have high moral character and must be considered to be an “excellent role model” for children of all ages as both ‘a teacher and a coach’ in the public schools.

⇨ Robert W. and Laura M. Hussey Scholarship: Must be a full-time student majoring in Kinesiology and Sports Studies with the K-12 Teacher Certification option, and accepted to Eastern Illinois University. Must have completed all of the required departmental methods courses within the Department of Kinesiology and Sports Studies and be eligible to student teach during one of the following two semesters. Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
