TEAM NOTES

MARVELOUS MAGGETT TeTe Maggett added her first career double-double on Friday, scoring a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. The junior guard sits top five in the Valley, averaging 16.1 points this season and leads the team, averaging 18.1 during conference play. She has proven to be a versatile player, also contributing a team-best of 50 assists.

FAB FRESHMEN Kayel Newland surpassed her personal best Friday night against Loyola, draining 11 points for the `Birds. She then matched that on Sunday, starting for ISU for the first time in her career, and added another 11 points in win over Valparaiso. Ally Gietzel had significant and valuable court time on Sunday contributing nine points, four boards, three assists, one block and one steal in 28 minutes of playing time. The freshman guard has not played more than five consecutive minutes prior to Sunday.

HAPPY MAKES Illinois State shot a season-best of 59.1 percent from the floor on Sunday, netting 26-of-44 shots. Prior to Sunday, the `Birds had lost two games where they averaged 50 percent or better from the field.

TALLYING TALBOT Megan Talbot had a noteworthy performance in Saturday's game against Bradley. The junior forward has recently returned after being plagued by injury for the first half of the season. Talbot tied her career high with 3-pointers made (2) and assists (4). She was strong from the field, shooting 62.5 percent, adding 12 points for the `Birds and grabbed four boards.

ALL GOOD THINGS COME FREE The Redbirds were a perfect 12-for-12 at the charity stripe on Sunday against Missouri State, shooting 100 percent for the first time in the 2018-19 season. On Friday, the squad added 21 points at the line, attempting 27 shots. ISU is tied 89th nationally for free-throw attempts, getting to the line 370 times this season.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE Senior forward Simone Goods led the `Birds to a 60-52 victory over Southern Illinois Friday night, capturing her 10th career double-double with 10 rebounds and 16 points. Goods' performance earned her a spot in ISU's top 25 list for double-doubles in a season with six thus far and pushed her to 14th all-time with 10 career double-doubles. The senior forward is third in the Valley for double-doubles this season behind Chelsea Brackman (9) and Abby Brockmeyer (7).

QUEEN OF THE BOARDS Senior guard Viria Livingston has made a mark in the ISU record books, being the class leader in total rebounds the previous three seasons, and continues to climb the career rebounding records as her senior campaign unfolds. Last season, the Minneapolis native grabbed 86 offensive boards which landed sixth all-time. With 35 offensive rebounds this season, she currently sits at 254, marking her third all-time in ISU history. She has tallied a career total of 577 rebounds, which puts her 17th all-time. Livingston is currently the second leading rebounder averaging 4.8 rebounds in the 2018-19 season.

2 SPORT ATHLETE Lexi Wallen joined the team following a four-year volleyball career at ISU. The senior forward has made an immediate impact on the team, averaging 9.3 points and six rebounds per game during conference play. She is one of five reported athletes to be currently competing in both volleyball and basketball at the division 1 level. Two of the five are Valley athletes. Katherine Carlson of Valparaiso also recently joined the basketball team after a volleyball career.

JUST LIKE RIDING A BIKE After helping the volleyball team to an NCAA appearance, Lexi Wallen is a new key player in the ISU basketball lineup. The senior forward led the `Birds in scoring against Drake and set a career high in points in both contests that weekend with 14 points on Friday and 16 on Sunday. The Champaign, Ill. native is a St. Thomas More graduate and owns the career points record with 2,200.

LANDMARK WIN Illinois State captured its seventh-straight win and first victory over UNI since 2014 on Friday. ISU has dropped the previous 10 matchups against the Panthers. The streak of seven wins is the longest since the 2012-13 season.

#SCTOP10 Maggett ignited the squad at halftime after sinking a half-court shot at the buzzer to propel the Redbirds ahead 39-38. The last-second shot also made an appearance on ESPN's Sports Center Top 10 list in two episodes, landing at No. 4 and No. 3.
