IP Phone Soft Branding

Since the time of CME 4.2.5 for SBCS (mid 2008), all Cisco 79xx phones can be soft branded. This can give your customers a custom look and feel that they desire to be displayed in their offices or can display your brand (VAR) to your end customers.

While the system ships with some defaults to select from (Settings ( User Preferences ( Background Images), this procedure will show you how to add more custom desktops.

1) You may build the thumbnail (.png) preview and full background image (.png) using ‘paint’ or some other picture program on your PC that allows you to define the pixel Heigth and Width as required by the type of phone (shown below).

In this example, we use the CIPC which is the 7970_7971 style and screen size.

So my two custom images are as follows:

[pic]John_C.png (320x212)

[pic]TN-John_C.png (80x53) ( what shows up on the phone preview

I found some info on CCO that shows the screen size for phones and it should be noted that the ones in RED are not automatically placed on flash as directories since they are not part of any SW pack (but I don’t see why you cant add them):

7906 - 7911 - 1 Bits - /Desktops/95x34x1

*Full size image-95 pixels (width) X 34 pixels (height).

*Thumbnail image-23 pixels (width) X 8 pixels (height).

7941/42 - 7961/62 - 4 Bits - /Desktops/320x196x4

*Full size image-320 pixels (width) X 196 pixels (height).

*Thumbnail image-80 pixels (width) X 53 pixels (height).

7970 - 7971 - 12 Bits - /Desktops/320x212x12

*Full size image - 320 pixels (width) X 212 pixels (height).

*Thumbnail image-80 pixels (width) X 53 pixels (height).

7945 - 7965 - 16 Bits - /Desktops/320x212x16

*Full size image-320 pixels (width) X 212 pixels (height).

*Thumbnail image-80 pixels (width) X 53 pixels (height).

7975 - 16 Bits - /Desktops/320x216x16

*Full size image-320 pixels (width) X 216 pixels (height).

*Thumbnail image-80 pixels (width) X 53 pixels

If you performed a ‘TFTP Debug’ while clicking on the phone GUI Settings ( User Preferences ( Backgrounds, you will notice that each phone type looks into a different directory for the file called List.xml for images locations.

Examples:

7975 looks in 320x216x16

029569: Mar  5 13:44:54.284: TFTP: Looking for Desktops/320x216x16/List.xml

7945 looks in 320x212x16

029573: Mar  5 13:45:06.684: TFTP: Looking for Desktops/320x212x16/List.xml

7970 looks in 320x212x12

29601: Mar  5 13:45:15.437: TFTP: Looking for Desktops/320x212x12/List.xml

2) TFTP the two images to flash under Desktop Subdirectories:

Directory of flash:/Desktops/

3) Edit the proper “List.xml” using any editor with the given format to reference the new files. In my case it’s the one (/Desktops/320x212x12/List.xml) used for 7970 and 7971.

4) Now add the TFTP-SERVER CLIs corresponding to the new files added. You best TFTP the file off the Flash, edit it, and put it back.

Example:

tftp-server flash:/Desktops/TN-graphicname.png

tftp-server flash:/Desktops/graphicname.png

5) Select the desktop from the phone.
