1. Install Image J

First you need to go to the page below and download the program. There are several different options available, platform independent version, Windows version, Mac version, etc. Download the one that fits the laptop you’ll be using. There is a link available to get download instructions for each one.



Next, go to the following page and download the astronomy plugin.



The installation instructions say to download Astronomy.zip to the ImageJ root directory, unzip into the ROOT directory, NOT into an "Astronomy" directory, and (re)start ImageJ. Look under plugins on the toolbar and see if the astronomy tools are available. If they are not, your unzipper is not cooperative, you’ll have to copy the files in the created Astronomy plugin/ and macro/toolsets/ directories directly into the correct ones in the image J directories. Then restart ImageJ.

2. Once you have the program installed go to the site below and bookmark the page. This is an online textbook for learning Image J. Read the introduction.



3. Next, got to this site and read the introduction.



4. This site has a link to an activity called ccd_intro Download this activity and try to work through it.
